LOGAN, Utah – Utah State director of track & field and cross country Matt Ingebritsen announced Friday the addition of Ryan Grinnell to his staff as an assistant
Unless they are going to build an indoor track that new outdoor facility is no help from Nov to April!
AND--its probably 1/2 what he was slated to make at UGA
AND--his operational budget/assistant salary pool won't even be close
And you no none of what you’re posting to be true. And with USC and UCLA joining the B1G the money that comes to Illinois from the conference and the BTN gets even bigger. Not to mention what adding those two schools might do to our ability to recruit.
And Illinois has won an NCAA championship in mens tennis and regularly competes for one in mens golf. So all this stuff about cold weather schools not being able to compete is not the issue you’re making out to be.
Weather notwithstanding, Illinois really does have nice facilities for track. The new outdoor track facility is really good. The Armory for indoor track is nice too, if not spectacular.
I think schools with Illinois' weather can do well. Maybe not the very top tier in the country, but still good. I'm from Minnesota and went to school in Champaign, and Champaign's winter usually isn't as long or harsh. Could have decent outdoor track days in November, even a few in December and as early as the very beginning of March. Problem is you never know. The weather range between October and mid-December and between March and mid-May is wide, with large fluctuations.
Armory has had upgrades over the last several years. New running surface, now has two pits for jumping, etc. Also they’ve changed the usage so that it’s access is more restricted.

The weather will not be an issue. The kids from Europe will be more than acclimated to Illinois weather and the facilities will be more than adequate.
