You have no idea how bad this is for the country. This is a victory of the corrupt government swamp over the people. I know that looks like a good thing from inside the rate maze, but it's a bad thing and you will come to feel it inside the maze.

This is why the first criterion for voters should have been character and proven leadership. Trump has always been bankrupt in both departments. Hillary was low character and difficult to trust, but you could say with certainly she would have been a status quo president and definitely a shrewd politician, which is light years ahead of the mess this guy is leaving the WH in. Trump didn't have to do much to dupe millions, they were already gullible. So when Gary says he showed them the way, he means Trump pretended to be on their side. He is going out like a flame.

Gary, the bigger disaster was electing Trump because as bad as you think the politicians were any of them can do a better job. I agree going back to old politics isn't a victory for the people, but we need relief from this maniac now. The idea that he was going to come in and destroy the system in order to improve things was always beyond ridiculous. No matter how bad it gets in the future, we will be reminding you of how destructive Trump was in a single year. Almost anything else beats this. Luckily for you and me, voters will have a chance to choose someone else soon enough. Lets hope we get some decent candidates and that people don't fall in love with another lunatic.

Status quo for Hillary means that she would have continue Obama's effort to weaponize all government agencies against her political opponents. Hillary was easily the most corrupt person to ever run for president. Democrats have no moral ground to stand on when it comes to discussing character and leadership.
When I say Trump showed the way, I mean we saw how a 3rd party candidate could defeat all existing powers at the same time. That remains a staggering achievement. Now we just need someone with a little more ideological backbone to go down the same path. Given the persecution Trump and his family have suffered I doubt anyone will try.

Trump is NOT an idealist, so anyone who follows him based on something he says one day will eventually be screwed because of that. You are just one in a long line of people he has screwed.

Trollminator, an excellent and thorough post.
Strictly theoretically speaking, since the United States is such a dominant economy would it be possible that the tariffs actual force other nations to play ball? Basically, we're the big kids on the block and we have all the power so play by our rules or else.
I think in a freshman economics 101 class that scenario would play out OK.
The main issue here is that the problem has not been defined and we seem to be using the wrong tool anyway. Economic efficiency has pushed the US to become service-focused and less manufacturing focused. Trump is suggesting we have been getting a bad deal because certain industries are not performing and shedding American jobs. He is right that those industries can't keep up, but he is wrong that we are getting a bad deal. Depending on the industry and the ability of foreign manufacturer's to produce cheaper goods, US businesses can no longer compete or become less competitive. Their choices are to either close or jump on the train and try to find cheaper production to stay competitive. For the most part we have done the latter. In doing so, manufacturing jobs have naturally gone abroad. So Trump is now suggesting we tax our trade partners to subsidize the revival of such businesses that can't compete. This is counterproductive and only delays the inevitable with a very high price. That is why in this case tariffs are a terrible idea.
What we should be focusing on are our strengths: technology and overall innovation. That starts with improving education (this is where we must establish agreement that government is vital in the process and needs to be well funded and held accountable to produce good results). The other policy driven aspect is to look at industries that are booming. Renewable energy is one of them, but our conservative leaders are science deniers so don't expect much funding or support there. We are absolutely awesome across several industries, but to remain competitive we will have to get on the same page regarding public support. So while Trump advocates for tightening borders and trade and become more US-centric, China, with their very efficient and centralized political process behind them, are all over the world and front of line in building relationships and setting up lucrative business deals. Who would have thought they would be leaders in renewable energy??? yet here they are trying to dominate every area, all with the full support of their government.
So although we are dominant, this discussion is apples to oranges. China is the manufacturing king, we cannot possibly beat them in that game, that is conclusive. We are still the tech and innovation kings, so perhaps we need to go around China in those industries are incentivize our businesses to work with other countries more, thus outmaneuvering China. All Trump is doing right now is barking at China telling them he will hurt their exports if they don't stop growing their GDP. It's a ridiculous notion. We need to man up and focus on our winning industries, not US coal and steel which offer very little number of jobs and competitive potential.
You seem pretty smart. Why are you posting on Letsrun again?

I wouldn't even say he showed you the way, he merely contested the status quo, all verbally. Most of suggestions have been utterly stupid. Was tax reform revolutionary? Yes. Did he have so much more leverage as an outsider? Yes. Did either turn out to be good for you and me? No.
Mueller is waiting for the opportune time to go for the jugular. Without any support left for Trump, Mueller will go down as one of the greatest American heroes of all time. The disastrous state of the GOP will be exposed as soon as Trump leaves town. Vultures are in the air.
CORRECT! It's a shame really that the GOP allowed Trump to take it down. Paul Ryan should have stuck to his initial ideas about Trump, saying he couldn't support him. Now, he's one of the big fools in the GOP.
I have no tattoos. When this is all over, I might have to get a Bob Mueller tattoo. Can't decide if upper arm, calf, or full back.
And, just to be clear about one thing (something I may have to repeat, but I won't do it a lot) -- IF Conspiracy with Russia is proven, then I will have been right about the 2016 election and right about Trump this time (though collusion, conspiracy, is not necessary for me to be right this time).
I was mocked when I said Michael Aish would run 2:19 in his first marathon. A 28:00 10k guy would run closer to 2:12 and I had no idea what I was talking about they said. He ran 2:19.
I was mocked when I said if the NCAA XC Championship race came down to a sprint finish between Ritz and Ryan Hall that Ritz would win. I licked Ritz's balls they said. He couldn't outkick Ryan Hall they said. Well, Ritz did.
I was mocked when I said Ritz would break 13:00 for 5,000. He doesn't have the wheels they said. He broke 13:00 and the American Record at the time.
I was mocked when I said Obama would win a second term. There wasn't the enthusiasm for him like there was in the first election they said. He won of course.
Mueller is coming.
The clown is done.

Said the drudge report. Where is your evidence? In the meantime, do we need to point to all the corruption, shady entanglements and chronic lying of Trump to easily award him the most corrupt of all time? Hillary is small potatoes compared to what Trump has been systematically involved in for most of his adult life.
That remains a staggering achievement. Now we just need someone with a little more ideological backbone to go down the same path. Given the persecution Trump and his family have suffered I doubt anyone will try.
It's not an achievement. It's actually proof that the corrupt system did get more corrupt. That a self-proclaimed billionaire blowh@rd with zero public governance experience won a presidential election by using divisive tactics and appealing to racists and conspiracists goes to show just how bad things had gotten. I will point to our ultra low voter turnout rates as further proof. Anyone who runs for POTUS should be scrutinized to no end and held to the highest standards, it is the most important job in our country after all.
Hillary vs Trump was a no brainer, no matter how bad she was there is no way she could have done a worse job than he has thus far. Do not try to use any measure of equivalence to justify your terrible vote, it'll just make you look dumber.
And you're about to prevail again, Flagpole, just by sticking to your guns and exercising common sense and moral discernment. Well done.

Russian collusion is blatant.
Let's begin our journey with George Papadapoulos. This Trump campaign foreign policy advisor, who has plead guilty to charges laid out by Special Counsel Mueller's investigation, provides a timeline of events. He was offered dirt on Hillary Clinton by a mysterious professor with ties to Russia.[1] The Trump campaign knew of hacked emails before Trump made his rally speech in which he asked Russia to release their collection of hacked emails.[2] Special Counsel Mueller's indictment of Papadapoulos listed him as a proactive cooperator - the implication being that Papadopoulos might have engaged with his former colleagues on behalf of investigators.[3] Professor Mifsud, the individual with ties to Russia that had met with Papadapoulos offering dirt on Clinton, has since gone missing.[4]
After Papadapoulos was offered dirt, top Trump campaign officials met with Russian operatives. Paul Manafort, Jared Kushner, and Trump Jr. were present at the infamous Trump Tower meeting where adoptions were discussed with Russian operatives.[5] Adoptions is an established euphemism used in reference to the Magnitsky Act, sanctions that are meant to cripple the power of Putin.[6] President Trump's son, son-in-law, and Campaign Manager met with Russians with the expectation of receiving damaging information about Clinton.[7] One of the Russian operatives present at the meeting, Rinat Akhmetshin, has ties to Russian intelligence and has a history of being embroiled in court cases related to hacking campaigns.[8] During Fusion GPS CEO Glenn Simpson's Congressional testimony he confirmed that the Trump campaign likely received foreign intelligence aid as Manafort had close ties to Russian Intelligence.[9]
We know Manafort was in contact with Russian Oligarch Oleg Deripaska during the campaign. We know Paul Manafort offered to give the Russian billionaire private briefings on the Trump campaign trail.[10] Manafort used a campaign account for the aforementioned email correspondence.[11] According to videos recorded by an escort that were discovered by Russian opposition activist, Alexei Navalny, show Deripaska meeting a Russian Deputy Prime Minister on a yacht 1 month after the email correspondence between Manafort and Deripaska took place, the United States came up as a topic of discussion.[12] Russia has threatened to block access to social media sites, such as YouTube and Instagram, if they do not remove the videos of Deripaska and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Prikhodko meeting on the yacht.[13]
Now here's another avenue of possible collusion, Roger Stone.[14] While Roger Stone has attempted to downplay his communication with Guccifer 2.0, he has admitted to have been in contact with the DNC hacking suspect.[15] According to the Daily Beast report, US investigators have found out that Guccifer 2.0 is a Russia Intelligence Officer that worked for the GRU.[16] The discovery was made because the Russian officer forgot to use a VPN while logging into Twitter and Wordpress. Last month investigative journalists discovered direct contact made between Roger Stone and Wikileaks.[17] We also know that Special Counsel Mueller has been asking questions about whether or not President Trump knew of the hacked DNC emails before they were released. They've asked about the relationship between GOP operative Roger Stone and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, and why Trump took policy positions favorable to Russia.[18] WikiLeaks can be considered an extension of Russia's 2016 disinformation campaign,[19] we knew that WikiLeaks shared material hacked by the GRU[20] before The Daily Beast report was released.

If Russian collusion was blatant then why did Mueller's team release a report that they had charged a dozen Russians for nothing worse than identity theft on a Friday night during a school shooting news cycle? The only reason they did that was because they have nothing and needed to boost the "look how many people have been caught in Trump's russia scandal" number so that you guys can come on here and say "Mueller's already got 20 people. Mueller has nothing.
Mueller will take down Trump by persecuting his old business partners with endless investigations, trivial perjury charges, and lawsuits. That's the plan right now, and when Trump figures out that his agenda is dead he might realize that it isn't worth the fight any more. It will take Trump a couple of weeks to fully understand the depth of the mistake he made today. It will be interesting to see what he does when it sinks in.

Disco, Trump is running on gut instinct now. He is tired of Kelly and others trying to reel in his recklessness. This is what you voted for - basically complete chaos. Why would you expect him to read anything that he signs? He doesn't even read.
I'm happy for you that you are starting to understand Trump's complete incompetence. Unfortunately, I don't think that many Trumpers are going to jump ship. If all of the crazy stuff he's done in the past hasn't hurt them, this won't either.
