I appreciate this post. You gave your viewpoint that you don’t believe Trump will actually do the things he regularly says he will do. I rank you higher than posters that refuse to even acknowledge the things Trump says.
Last week Trump said the enemy within is a greater threat than China and Russia. And the national guard and military may be needed to handle them because they are crazy and dangerous
His sycophants ran to cable news to whitewash that statement and say he meant dangerous immigrants. Then Trump said he meant people like Pelosi and Schiff. He named lawmakers as his targets. Which is no surprise because he has said similar things dozens of times.
Here is my question; What safeguards do we have that would prevent Trump from doing this? Why do you feel Trump would be unable to execute his wishes?
Well, for one thing most of if not all of the higher ranking military officers hate Trump. But the other thing that seems really obvious to me is that Trump just says things, he doesn't mean even a small portion of what he says. This is not 'sanewashing' or trying to explain away stuff he says the way his followers do, its just recognizing a pattern and the way he intoxicates his cult. He says all kinds of things he thinks they want to hear, gets them riled up. He plays the media on both sides, getting the left wing media to attack him nonstop while he rails against them, then the right wing meda spins everything that may sound negative as some kind of positive. The blowback he gets from the left for his utter bs statements is fodder because his cult loves when people on the left are foaming at the mouth over these things.
When push comes to shove many of the people that are supposedly going to carry out his evil plans abandon him once they realize how nuts he really is, or he fires them because they don't go along with every little thing. We are expected to believe that at his even more advanced age while he is obviously even more cognitively declined than he was 4 years ago he suddenly isn't going to be inept anymore. I don't believe it.
I get where you are coming from. It is comforting to believe we have checks and balances that will prevent Trump from executing his retribution. But we saw in Trump 1.0 that all those guardrails were fired and are now demonized by Trump. We were very close to very bad things happening but a few people with integrity in the GOP stepped up.
And Trump has surrounded himself with people much smarter than him. Project 2025 and Agenda 47 outline the importance of removing any non-loyal civil servants that may impede Trump in his wishes. So you are either banking on Trump being truthful and having nothing to do with Project 2025 or you are banking on incompetence being our savior again.
Why roll the dice that way? Send Trump out to pasture.
Flagpole's arrogance deserves endless mocking. And the best part is that it will be coming from the lib side. I can just sit back and watch the fireworks!
You and Flagpole both seem very confident in your predictions.
Will you guys put your posting here on the line? Loser leaves town and no longer posts on LRC?
They’ve both been wildly wrong before and they are both still here contributing nothing.

Ineptness is the main hope. And a pretty pathetic hope for a supposedly great country - "Where HOPING that OUR dictator is lame!!!" But.....
While I could (and many have) list all kinds of things that would strongly suggest that the second 4 years could be far, far worse than the first 4, I'll list just one, and perhaps #1: Since his last term, SCOTUS has decided that a president can "officially" do whatever he damn well pleases. That's a huge, HUGE difference from his first administration, and you can be 100% certain that it gives him an erection and LOTS of material for daydreaming and planning.

Put another way, SCOTUS says that Trump can very safely do away with, "Some people say..." The case ain't ever getting to trial.
The untouchable president. JUST what the founders had in mind.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of current "undecided voters" even know about that SCOTUS ruling? Does it even get to 50%? Likely not? Probably not??

Trump demonized his own cabinet members the last time around if they contradicted him or did even small things he didn't like. I am supposed to believe he's changed just because there are some new guys looking to use him for their own agenda?
You and others think I am banking entirely on him being incompetent but I have made clear that its not just that, its that he cannot fire EVERYONE and still get things done, thats jut not how to it works.
If Trump literally tries to become a dictator do you really think people will sit on their hands and let that happen?
Periodic Trumper Question: How many of you woke up this morning worrying about what Biden was going to do with total impunity today?
Yep, still nobody.
Playing very stupid, very dangerous games with a pretty decent nation.
Are you pretending you haven't seen the Democrats weaponize the federal government against their political opponents?
Trumps legal problems are because Trump is a criminal. 95% of the incredibly damning evidence and testimony comes from Republicans and those that worked closest to Trump.
And I am not naive enough to believe any Trumper would ever read that evidence. But anyone that reads the evidence against Trump knows exactly who Trump is. And why he should never be given power and immunity to crime again.

One thing Democrats have done under Biden that receives little attention is increased use of tax payer funds to entrench a long time Democrat majority. The open border is one tactic. Bribing people with giveaways is another. But probably the most damaging is his executive order on voter registration. Basically it was a tactic championed by the mother of Sam Bankman Fried. With his dirty money now out of the picture, they replaced it with YOUR money.
The Stanford professor argued that getting more Democrats registered to vote would be far more effective than simply donating to candidates, and encouraged donors to give 90% of their election cont…
Three years after President Biden issued an executive order for boosting voter registration, GOP officials are ramping up efforts to turn it into a partisan flash point before this fall’s election.

Research history. This is not new.
we have learned that American exceptionalism is a fallacy. The same road map to authoritarianism would easily occur here just like elsewhere.
Authoritarians rule by fear. You only need to fire 10-20 important people and that sends a message and everyone else falls in line.
(We have seen this take place on a small scale as Trump has purged one of our political parties)

Trump committed crimes. Is the government supposed to not charge him over them just because he’s a politician? We’ve never had a president charged with crimes because there’s no previous president who had such contempt and little regard for the law.
I have a question. The judge presiding over Trump's trial where the jury came back with a guilty verdict - isn't he a Democrat?
Why has the judge never imposed a sentence which would make Trump a convicted felon? And couldn't he impose a sentence now and have Trump locked up?
They delayed the sentencing due to the immunity ruling. Since they never specified a second law he broke and since many of the witnesses who were called were employees functioning in their official capacity, it is impossible to know if the mysterious second crime (never identified by either the prosecutor or the judge who gave broad instructions) that elevated misdemeanors past the statute of limitations to felonies could be determined to have occurred as part of his official capacity. As such the conviction from this politically motivated show trial should be vacated.

Ahh yes, the good ol 'research history'. Maybe you need some history lessons yourself. Rulers fall all the time too, probably far more often than they are able to execute plans to dismantle a government. How many leaders have begun their dictatorship at the ripe age of 78 while wearing diapers? Please, by all means, lets have the history lesson.
What would people do? They'd do what happened last time just as I have said. Talking about history but ignoring his last presidency, where as I had said, people literally refused to do what he tried to do. Only need fire to 10-20 important people? The guy was firing people every other day and that didn't help.
Are you pretending you haven't seen the Democrats weaponize the federal government against their political opponents?

The government manufactured crimes in most of the cases (especially in New York). They were charging him with things that they would not charge others with who committed similar offenses (see the list of other presidents and vice presidents who committed similar confidential documents offenses).
