You need to check your history. Israel had agreed to the proposed two state solution. Palestinians said no. (Bet they’d like a do-over on that.) 6 Arab countries tried to invade , failed. This was the TSN turning point. They left voluntarily because Arab countries said they would get the whole area for them. Every time they try they lose. Palestinian are lead by incompetents and can’t take the compromise.

I maybe would go as far as saying they were negligent, depending if they intentionally stopped taking security briefings seriously. One thing is known about Bibi's approach though - he actively sought to prop up Hamas to divide power between Gaza and the West Bank. He has made comments to the effect in the past, and his affiliates have openly made similar statements. And their actions support this. The idea was that by bolstering Hamas (keeping Palestinians disunited, poor and in chaos) and simply managing the smaller conflicts, the establishment of a Palestinian state would simply not be possible. They were happy to allow foreign funds to enter Gaza to maintain their ceasefire... knowing full well Hamas and not Palestinians would benefit.
Bibi's government has sought to keep Palestinians on the ropes and have been more than fine with Hamas being in control. And now they even announce they are about to commit war crimes before doing so. They called Palestinians animals (it's ok to kill them) and it's hard to argue their announced and actioned military response isn't primarily harming civilians. We have proof of some indiscriminate bombing now as well. I don't see how they can possibly argue this is all to target Hamas... insanity. If this is war with Palestine, they would need to argue that Palestinian civilians are enemy combatants, and that's not possible. Of course, they are backed by the US so there will be no war crimes tribunal, but so much for a democracy.

If only someone could explain to me this part of the Hamas charter document: “The entire planet will be under our law. There will be no more Jew or Christian traitor.” Sounds like they want to kill Jews and Christians to me, but that can’t be right…can it? Maybe someone out there is good at solving riddles.
