CBU has two open full time assistant XC positions with salary ranging between 70-80k dependent on experience w/ an aggressive bonus structure on top of that. Great benefits & excellent retirement package. We have narrowed down the search quite a bit but are still hoping for a bit more in the search pool to fill out both positions. Focus would be somewhere in the realm of recruiting (international AND domestic) and logistics (travel, admin work, gear) while assisting with all practices and meets. I think he heard you, Craig! He hired a coach from Illinois and got him an assistant to help him recruit more illinois runners. Looking at their Cross roster 90% are illinois kids

I would disagree. I have also coached for 30 years at every level from junior varsity high school to the Olympic Games. About 75% of those years were at the college level. I actually stepped back from college coaching early in my career and coached younger kids, club and post-college before going back into the college ranks at the right time and ended up at a place I have spent 1/3 of my life at. My opinion - you learn a lot early from both good and not-so-good situations. Ask yourself what are your priorities, motivations and coaching philosophy. Then look for places that are an institutional fit for you. There are loads of schools out there, different locations, etc. Talent will come and go as well, but working with the right kind of people, good admin, etc. is a game-changer. Be where you can coach a person the way you believe you should, not just as an athletic-commodity or an enrollment number.
This is pure gold. We often rush too fast into the process just to say we are a coach especially at the D1 Level. D1 is by far the most diverse and unequal division. You have so many schools that dont belong there and are holding on for dear life. Many are just needing a roster for enrollment and that will drive a coach insane. Then when you have a contrasting view on what it should be they will kick you to the curve making you to be the bad guy.
if you were in a bad situation then yes focus on your family and doing what you need to do. Coaches come and go in this profession you will be able to jump right back in when the right opportunity comes up. Good luck

Might as well be a GA at a different school. You'll probably make more money and it'll help your career more.
Paying less money then McDonald's is a joke, especially at a school that most likely won't help your career that much
