The Trials and Tribulations of Running YouTubers

These influencers will stoop very low to get anything free. Like a homeless person begging for food.

Well, because Kuntfuzi is clueless, and all the people that watch him are also clueless, I imagine there are a few that will find some strange reason to follow his footsteps.

I'm guessing the stay at home dad "need" went away as his kids got older and he turned his hobby into a business.

Although I used to watch him back before the oversaturation of the market, I always found him (and his videos) on the boring side. I will never be able to figure out how he, of all of the running youtubers, broke through at the same time that running youtube was becoming oversaturated.

It's very simple: Every time I watch running content on Youtube, I get a kofuzi video recommendation. It's literally the first video recommended. This is a sign that Youtube is artificially pushing his content. The reason is his far-left ideas.

It may sound petty, but go flag his Strava activity for having bike pacers.

I want to speculate. I've been wondering for awhile if Phily Bowden and Allie O dislike each other. Allie ran for Boise and I remember Phily said she visited Boise before committing to another university in the States. I seem to also remember her saying she didn't like how unapproachable the girls were on the Boise team, basically implying they were mean. I also think Phily and Allie may have overlapped during their time competing at the college level, so Allie may have been there when Phily visited. Most recently, they both ran the Mesa half and neither one mentioned the other even though both are in a relatively small Youtube bubble. Thoughts?

They seem to get along fine as competitors. Allie was featured in Phily's video and vice versa. Back then, they were both dealing with eating disorders so they might not have been friendly to each other then. But they have recovery in common now.

My thoughts are that you've too much time on your hands.

This is the case with everyone here that writes more than about two sentences.

Kofuzi's next Strava title should be "Ko is exhausting".

Today Kofuzi posted a video on a new Hoka shoe (Bondi) where basically juggling half a dozen different Hoka shoes. I guess good training for his Morocco trip! Also, if the running tour companies are sponsoring his content and/or giving him free trips to try and sell people on their tours, is he even a ShoeTuber anymore? Over time, his channel seems to be morphing into a travel vlog. Jeb Brooks is much better to watch for those IMO.

What is up with The Welsh Runner? Rarely posts any videos anymore and I recall a bizarre previous sub 2:20 marathon series which went silent after a couple of episodes (no doubt injured after a few weeks - his mileage is always up and down like a yoyo)

Always wonder how he manages to put food on the table, hes has 4 kids and neither him or his wife appear to work. Youtube will only bring in pennies, very curious set-up

He's injured. He mentioned it in a recent video.

He was injured, now running again, but that's part of the sport.

He's a coach as well You Tuber and FWIW I think he's one of the most knowledgeable/science based people in running. His back ground is scientific (Chemistry degree) and he's really in tune with bioscience studies/information surrounding running/sports physiology.

I know this bores some, but for analytically types like me its really engages me.

considering hes so knowledgeable etc, how comes hes injured an awful lot and he coaches his wife to run 2 marathons in 2 weeks and previously ran one on a stress fracture. not a good look if you want to be a reputable coach to be consistently injured

It's interesting you've come to this conclusion. I actually don't mind his content. However, at least to me, he does not see to come across as a science based runner.

In fact, I'd say he's the opposite. He seems to be stuck in a cycle of the same "all in" overly hard sessions, then he gets injured. He does not seem be taking an analytical approach to break this trend.

So Ben Felton aka 'Ben Is Running' ran 66:23/66:30 (chip/gun) at Barcelona HM this past weekend.

I've wondered in situations like this if he (and youtubers like him) are painting themselves into a bit of a corner here: his PR is the result of spending an extended trip in Iten, however as time goes on he'll realise he can't get anywhere near his PR's unless he keeps going back to Iten. Unless he can get them to continuously gift him these trips, it's going to incur quite a large expense for someone who's career is now based on youtube ad revenue and he may have to prioritise training locally which wont garner the same results.

Maybe he doesn't care, he has the shiny PR and he can plaster the 66min time across all his socials for god knows how long (a la Ben Parkes Mr. 2:25), however without more trips, he may have pushed his PR too far out of his own reach which will result in months/years of subsequent decent-but-not-PR results to come.

For reference, his 5K, HM and Marathon PR's all come from within a couple weeks of trips to Kenya

What is it you think these Kenya trips bring that can't be replicated on any track? Aside from the altitude conditioning, surely now that he's been he can just implement the same training regimes back in Essex?
