That could have been the case but could it also have been that they, like most other programs were going after a woman no matter what?
Does anyone know who the other candidates were.
The other candidates were women.
Are you at liberty to say who the other women were? At least the final crop of candidates that is. I know of a few people who were considered and two were men. I don't know how far they got in the process but from what I know, it wasn't just women.
If Mike Smith had been looking out for her he would have told her to not take the job. It's a set up for failure for her. She will get perhaps one scholarship to recruit with on the men. Maybe two on the women's side. Sacramento puts almost 100% of the scholarships into sprints and jumps. She has no coaching experience. Even if she could be a good coach, she will not be able to prove it at Sacramento.

You have to be able to coach your ass off in that positions with little resources and they keep hiring people that don’t know how to coach.

I disagree. The way things are going she can now get a really great job in one to two years at a higher level school. The HC at that school will be told by their sport admin they need to hire a woman, and because she now will have some experience and there still aren’t a ton of highly qualified female candidates out there, she’ll move toward the top of the pile of applications. Doesn’t matter if she’s successful or not there, she’s a female and has some experience at D1.
If it were a male taking this job I might agree with you, but there’s currently a different standard for females in the industry. It’s just the way it is.
Any word on the staff BAS is bringing in? Old staff canned? Id bet nothing gets posted. As a track fan close to Storrs I’m curious to see how this hire shakes out.
This continues to be an extremely puzzling hire for UConn. Seemed like their women's distance program was really rolling, and that Lindsay had been doing a very solid job there. An emerging young star in the distance coaching realm, and the team loved her. By choosing BAS, they sealed Lindsay's fate getting fired, and now the entire distance program is set to leave UConn (ideally following Lindsay). They did their homework, talked to former Tennessee athletes, and found a pretty shocking culture that they did not want to be a part of. Lack of athlete development, emotional abuse, eating disorders, the list goes on. It's amazing that ADs can be so clueless, as anyone could've seen this disaster coming by hiring her. I get if UConn doesn't want to be an all-distance school and build around Lindsay, but she was a major asset to that program and some other university is going to happily scoop her up (and her national caliber athletes that follow). It seems that a program like UConn could've done so, so, so much better for a director hire. This was a death sentence for them.
The director hire your complaining about was the director for a team that got 3rd at outdoor ncaas. Has UConn ever been top 20 in NCAAs? Who’s the better hire on the market that wants to move to Storrs? Cool Lindsay did fine. But as a director BAS had the best resume of any available candidate this summer.

That third place team had 0 point due to her coaching. She made good hires — but how hard is it to make good assistant hires when the SEC is paying more than anyone else. She is a distance coach who was the director of a men’s team that hasn’t had a single male distance runner at nationals

Lindsay only had one distance athlete qualify for regionals, a 5th year senior. She did not advance to the final round. No qualifiers to NCAA cross either.
She only had 3 athletes under 17 in the 5k, 2 of which were seniors. Nobody under 35:30 in the 10k. She didn't inherit a great situation but 3 years is certainly enough time to build a much stronger group than she did, especially with the transfer portal.
It's fair to argue that BAS might not have been the best hire to lead UConn, but it's obvious to EVERYONE that Lindsay WAS NOT the solution either.

Making great hires is literally the game when you're the director. That shows how impressive her leadership is
Hiring subpar candidates when don't have the self confidence to hire people that know what they're doing or are worried about your job so you hire scrubs to look better is the mark of someone who is ok with being mediocre.

Sacramento state could learn from Beth
Hahahahah this is classic… saying a director is only good because they hire good coaches is like saying the AD isn’t good at their job the just hire good coaches, good fundraisers, and good admin to help them run the department!
