Really? Try it then. Took me a year. I didn’t even gain that much weight... something like 10 or 15 pounds but I was seriously out of shape. I didn’t break my 18 year old prs for 2 years. So I was at least 22 before I was better, or had any advantage over my 18 year old self.

It would be very interesting to compare pre-mission track times to post mission track times and see how long it takes the average returned missionary to break even (no improvement). Then maybe compare their improvement deltas in later years with average improvements of people who didn't go on missions (BYU or other teams) to estimate where they might have been if they hadn't served missions.

Mantz will be like Rohatinsky. Josh Rohatinsky ran his senior yr HS 1999 Footlocker, graduated 1999-2000 year. In 2007 he was like 8th in the 2007 NCAA track and field 10000 outdoor championships. Hard to find him as they snuck him around in those years.

My granddaughter went on an 18 month mission. In her efforts to tell people about the gospel of Jesus Christ she did a lot of walking and biking. She carried a device(phone?) that recorded her mileage. She and her companion did 18 miles one day.

In the United States, and most likely other countries, it is common for members to feed the missionaries. Despite walking and biking AND playing basketball on Mondays, my granddaughter gained 12 lbs.

The Mormon church has maintained a duplex across the street from my house for the past 6-8 years. The mission kids live there. I've seen a lot of them come and go. Maybe 2 or 3 times in all these years, Ive seen them go for a run in the early morning.

Nobody should be surprised that guys like Beanish and Ratcliffe struggled. They are lower mileage runners that specialize in shorter distances. Perhaps the biggest reason that they struggled is the conditions. Look at the technique of these two runners. The slop and the mud suck the energy out of their stride.

What are you talking about? I asked a question. Nowhere - NOWHERE - is my question is there a hint of being a bigot or venting about immigrants and racial minorities.

The point of my question is if BYU has been doing this for years and has such an advantage, then why haven’t they dominated and won more? Since this is their first championship, I don’t see how they have an advantage. So I’m not being a bigot at all.
