You heard the story about the kids chained to their beds in California, with the obviously crazy parents? The kids are no longer in that house of horrors, but I can't imagine there's much left for them. They've spent decades with no sense of the world, of right or wrong.
The younger ones, what do you think will come of them when they put ten, twenty years behind them? What do you think is the problem with the parents?

I know high schoolers that work much harder than this guy. If your body can't handle the mileage required to meet your delusional goals then why wouldn't you spend another hour or two everyday cross training on top of the mileage you're running? You obviously aren't doing everything you can.
I’ve been following this thread for awhile. I’ll admit coebra used to irritate me like hell. Now he just makes me laugh and laugh. Sure there are lots of delusional runners around. The 2:50 marathoners who talk about meeting the Olympic trial standard , the 17:305k guys who talk about breaking 15 but coebra is on a leg of his own. Love the long runs being 6.34miles at 8:55 pace. Really love those repeat 354 sprints. But the 200 meter sprints on the treadmill raise the crazy bar. How the heck do you do that ? Crank the treadmill up to 15.2 mph and hang on for dear life for 29.5 seconds ? Lol. Must be popular at the gym.
I hate to pile on but have to echo the last few posters. You’ve ran 15 flat, so you obviously have a decent amount of talent, but if you’re trying to get faster you actually need to train hard. Have some self-awareness man. A guy like you would basically need a legit miracle to make the trials and you’re doing less training than even a mediocre runner like myself. Accept that you’re never going to be an elite runner (and that’s perfectly fine, it makes you just like 99.999% of us), start training hard, and see what you can do. But for the love of God please start living in the real world.

Yep, like every other runner with testes I do my 200s on a track, not flay away on a treadmill.

I do speed work on the treadmill all the time. Not because i couldn't go to the track but just for timd constraints. I have a treadmill at home. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices to be able to work 60 hours a week and run 70 miles a week, while having a wifs and kids. Anyway, i feel like I get a great workout on the treadmill and i like the repeatability of it. If i do a workout today, i can do the EXACT same workout next week. No questioning whether I'm running too fast or too slow.

Maybe he realizes that his goal is not grounded in reality and his 3K time confirmed it. A sub 11min race is not bad for a hobby jogger.

Friend asked me if I wanted to do the DMR with a couple other unattached guys. It was right after the 3k, but figured I didn't have anything to lose, because they wanted me to do the 400 leg. The surprise was that I ran a 55.22, the fastest recorded 400 of my life by 3 seconds! Just went out and hammered as hard as I could- legs almost went with 75m to go. Really happy about that one!

Comments: Late workout, dark for most. Track was clear so did them on there. Started off slow (didn't think anything of it) but halfway through the second, legs got really tired. third was a little worse, increased rest to 4:00, fourth felt awful for the last 100, increased rest to 6:00, and legs almost completely failed me in the final 100 of the 5th rep, so stopped short of the planned 6. Cooldown was so slow afterwards- didn't even break 10min pace until 1/3 of the way through it.

Rest Day Day Off. Felt really physically burned out and with some mildly worrisome pain in left shin after the workout yesterday so decided to take a day off.
Great week other than the Thursday workout debacle. Just taking it in stride, though.
Estimated vV02 mile pace has dropped by 10 seconds since last race, from 5:05 to 4:55. Things are moving in the right direction

Don't mind the haters. They are an inevitable side effect of dreaming big out loud. As I'm sure you are aware, it's a big ask to go from where you are right now to where you want to be and something that would concern me is a injury prone runner doing the steeple, it's not that you shouldn't but now is the time to work on your durability with good attention to strength and flexibility and even hurdle drills. These will help with your performance in the steeple down the road but will also help with the durability issues you have now. It's never too early to start practicing. A saying my coach used to have is to start training now for where you want to be in 4 years.
If your injured or managing niggles and can't get much running in, hit the pool for some aquajogging to get extra volume in too. Your priority now should be to increase your durability first as your body is only as strong as your weakest link. Use some supplemental training like aquajogging to keep your aerobic fitness up and work on your strength and flexibility to increase that durability.
