Steve Magness Issues Passionate Rebuttal To Alberto Salazar’s Open Letter

The legality of secretly taping conversations is, as I understand it, a matter of state law. Just for the heck of it I looked at the Oregon statute (http://www.oregonlaws.org/ors/165.540) and it is a bit unclear (I'm not an attorney, though) and I assume case law might also be relevant. Does anyone know where Oregon stands on this matter?

If you were planning to use "I was sabotaged!" as an excuse for a positive drug test, wouldn't you want the people doing the testing to know that you were supposedly taking steps to safeguard against such a think, so that if you did piss hot you could refer back to your "experiement" and say, "This is exactly what I was talking about"?

Those who see Salazar's being forthcoming about these "experiments" as pointing toward him being on the level about them are either extremely credulous or not considering the matter at any length. A person operating an ongoing doping program is not going to neglect covering his ass in any way possible at every step the way.

I am not saying that Salazar is clearly guilty on account of any of this, only that is laughable to see them as bolstering his claims of playing fair here.

So because microdosing is probably easy to get away with, it's best to just imagine that it's not going on undetected all over the place? I guess that's one "solution" to the PED problem.

Actually, that's not their job. Their job is to act at the direction of sports federations or other anti-doping authorities. They have no authority to sanction anyone.

Those aren't inconsistancies. Those are disagreements about the facts between two parties. We know Magness's position and Salazar's. There's nothing more for either of them to write

Salazar never addressed his inconsistencies; even after Mo Farah's Freud PR group a lot of money, to author the manifesto, to avoid them.

Investigation.

The Salazar rebuttal is hog-spit. It was prepared by a public relations firms that specializes in tweaking public opinion. Salazar did not write most of it.

Retractions are made everywhere in the rebuttal. Those are the sign of an attorney at play. Documents that might be damaging to Salazar's case were deep-sixed by the PR firm and their attorneys.

Don't put all of your faith in such a heavily manipulated document.

There is a huge amount of money at stake for Salazar, Farah, Rupp and other NOP members. They will spend whatever it takes to try to put the heat out.

They are inconsistencies. Salazar provided documentation proving that either Magness did not remember facts correctly or was willfully lying.

NOP, Salazar's manifesto was not authored by him. It was written by a PR Firm (Freud) and their attorneys. The manifesto is full of holes, and presents a very slanted version: exactly what PR Firms do.

Blah blah blah... Almost a year later and NOTHING.

Magness seems like a smart guy, but this move does not make any sense...it is stupid. He has a D1 college coaching gig, which for most people recruiting, coaching and administrating their team is all you have time for. Continuing with more of the same and in fact proving more inconsistencies makes his story look worse. To catch a big fish, you need a big hook and right now Steve and Gouchers have a little hook.
