Ok, that was a lot more detailed and frankly more powerful than I expected.

The ball is squarely back in Epstein's court. Time for him to drop any and all bombshells he may have.

Kara needs to explain the Cytomel issue. Hopefully it's that she was seeing a second doc or something.

I'd be interested to hear why Magness didn't just ask Dr. M about the 2002 notation when he had the chance. Possibly there is a good explanation for this like he was too sick or something.

I did not really appreciate the 'low blows' about Magness not having any athletes at nationals.

Overall, not a good day for the Magness and Goucher households. But let's hear their responses.

Nope, I suck. No one needs to pat himself on the back for his own literary skills to see that Alberto's letter is a mess. That may not speak to the content, but even people who don't consciously care about good writing recognize bad writing, and this affects how they view the content. It would have been to Salazar's advantage to let someone clean up after him.

Question:

So the parents and Al were so diligent, but now neither Al, Galen, nor the Rupps can remember what Galen's "testosterone" supplement was?

That document was from 2002 when Galen was a high school runner that had won exactly one state title. Even if they looked into it, why would his parents remember the exact supplement 13 years later? Why would his parents keep records of every supplement their high school aged son used? Looking into it doesn't mean they kept a log book of what he took 13 years ago when he wasn't even an elite, national class athlete.

Alberto steers clear of this. If anything he shows that you could easily be sabotaged by a massage therapist during an actual massage where you are thoroughly lathered up. Gatlin's case stays mostly the same -- his word versus the other.

Interesting tidbits all around! Maybe I can add some and then ask a few questions.

1. Areson and Magness aren't dating anymore. She is in Australia and he just recently made some quip about dating on his twitter account.

2. Magness is a good coach, but he is still developing into a national-level coach and his recruiting needs to improve, although part of that stems from the fact that he is trying to recruit to UofH. He also comes across like he knows more than other coaches because he asks questions and seeks answers and he assumes other coaches don't do the same whereas they probably just aren't as public about it. This assumption irks others in his profession and is a source of ire in the eyes of communities such as letsrun. His "Advice for a young coach" podcasts are funny because he is a young coach himself.

3. The story is coming out now because all of the accusers are at a point in their lives where they have relatively little to lose when it comes to track and field. Fleshman and Kara Goucher are with Oiselle and marketing to mommy runners, Adam Goucher has his recent book out and does speaking engagements, and Magness has his Ph.D. program to fall back on if things don't work out. His backup job as an exercise physiologist will start out between 85-100k. They're all going to be able to continue to put bread on the table. Not true 2-3 years ago.

4. Dr. Brown is a Houston endocrinologist. He has been in Houston for a long time.

5. Magness and Salazar are likely both right about each other in many ways, particularly when they describe each other's personality traits.

It would be interesting to find out if Brown has worked with other athletes. Were they exclusively endurance athletes? Or has he worked with sprinters, jumpers, and throwers? I wonder if anyone knows. If so, what service would an endocrinologist provide to a power athlete? Why couldn't AlSal find some guy up in Oregon for this?

He quoted studies/statistics in the response from USATF that showed that 21% males running mid distance, long distance and the marathon in 2012 had thyroid issues from the (US), females were 23% and that 20 something percent of all of Great Britain's athletes had thyroid issues. So his rates are actually lower.

I can't believe so many of you take his " a doctor gave this to me" or a "doctor gave this to them" as an excuse. Who do you think LA got all his stuff from and administered it? All doctors. I race, and can walk down the street to a Low T center and get a "doctor" to give me testosterone. Of course he has tons of scripts for everything under then sun, actually smart, he covers all bases.

These is so much smoke here it is crazy. Like I saw on Twitter, as sick as Galen seems to be, it is amazing he is a world class runner in not in a hospice!

Of course. So doesn't this lend credence to Magness's statements and claims? Why would he risk everything if he knew how much it could potentially harm him?

I have read the accusations and the response. There is a lot of parsing that could be taken of both. Individual word selection matters a lot in the response, and I'm sure legally it would stand up no matter whether doping occurred or not.

If I step back from the details, my overriding question is: why would all of these people from different perspectives and experiences just decide to lie and be malicious now? You could say there is some bandwaggoning going on, which is clear whether doping occurred or not because more people continue to come forward once the first story broke. But the people involved in the accusations have no history of slander, and this would be a very poor way to get attention if they are deliberately lying.

The trend in all of the high profile doping cases has been the same. Powerful, successful athlete/coach is accused, accused maligns accuser, fans of the accused gather behind them, and eventually the accused is shown to be guilty. That's not evidence that it will happen here, too, but the trend is that way for many reasons.

It's easy to see where Magness getting close to Areson could make his work less objective.

The irony and hypocrisy of this, of course, is that Alberto's relationship with Galen was what soured so many people. Kara says she felt abandoned for a year.

I wouldn't remember something I took 3 years ago, either. The point is the parents and the perfectionist coach checked it all out and now nobody remembers what it was. I guess we'll find out a few years down the road.

Those statistics were for asthma, not for thyroid. He (deliberately?) didn't include any statistics on hypothyroidism in his response.

No gag order and not wishy washy. If we could hear the tapes of my conversations with Alberto, you'd understand who was desperately pleading to whom to believe their story. The thing is, some of us live in the real world. If something doesn't look right to me, I say it, and seek an explanation - which I've done multiple times with Alberto.

The Androgel testing on his son remains a mystery to me, but like i said on another thread, "Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they aren't after you."

If someone was coming after me I would have a hard time not delivering my blows. On the whole Salazar response seemed well balanced to me.

Quite an interesting statement. I'm guessing that Kara Goucher will be a able to get a TUE for IV saline due to crying for 10 hours after reading this.

By calling out individuals, Salazar is begging them to come forward with anything else they have. It will be interesting to see whether Magness and Goucher respond with more details and evidence or cannot do so. If they try to say that they have lots of information but won't make it public, I would have a hard time believing that since Salazar has really thrown down the gauntlet.

On the other hand, Lance begged everyone to come forward and eventually (why so long?) people did.
