World cross is like nothing you have ever run, unless you have raced it you have no concept when these guys are out at 4:10 pace and then start to surge on each other. What are you basing this on? True is a mudder and did very well in Poland, but this was a grass track. Why do you think he would have ran any better than Derrick? I'm a True fan and he's in very good shape based on recent road results, but maybe he had an issue with the altitude in Boulder? (Although by memory I think it was more the heat).

By the sounds of things, regardless if its the 4th or the 5th runners, Ethiopia has the tiebreaker.
obviously i have my biases, but i'm also a huge true fan. no way he would have done significantly better than derrick. derrick ran a smart race, best he could have hoped for in the circumstances. true could have been 20th, I'll give you that, but nothing more significant than that. americans need muddier courses to have a achance it seems like
true is actually a snower. he can run mud well too.. and today was a mudder on the lines being run.. today was not boulder... today was cool, overcast, and not at altitude (1100m is not altitude)... true killed the 15k champs. and true is better than derrick in cross. anything else?

Derrick said it was very hard out there and he did the best he could. He got up to about 25th and was running with a guy he knew was very good and thought he'd help them move up, but they just stayed in the 20s. He would look up before and uphill and think he was gaining on the people in front, but it just didn't happen.
He wishes maybe he had gone out a little harder (30s instead of 60s) becuase he had to move up a lot. He got up there pretty quickly, but just couldn't move out of the 20s. Rojo had him only 12-seconds back fairly early on (first mile ish).
Top 15 get the A standard for 10,000 so he missed that.
interesting that paula and the male bbc commentator (hutchings?) keep commenting on the low numbers of participation, and also mentioning how having two races would have diluted the numbers even more, but didn't we used to have 125+ ppl in EACH race back when there was 4k and 12k? I don't see having two races as a problem, it's just more the lack of possibility for success for the non-east african teams. perhaps more team prize money, with a mandate that at least 5 finish to earn the prize money? really don't know that there is a good solution at this point, unless world cross becomes an olympic sport.

Americans need to get off their backsides get over to Europe and race.
We need host a true international x-country race here in the US with world class elites on a tough course. Develop the sport.
Confirmed, Ethiopia 20 and Kenya 20, but Ethiopia won in the tie breaker.
Bahrain 3rd with Eritrea 4th, Uganda 5th, Tanzania 6th and US 7th.

Which is assbackwards and should be changed. If two teams tie, I'm inclined to go with the team the guy that WON THE RACE was on.
ok, let me caveat that statement. US teams "of the depth we sent this year" need muddier courses. now if rupp, bumbalough, lagat, lopez lomong, hassan mead, Ritz, etc, all start showing up to world cross, now the US is a legitimate medal contender (bronze only). otherwise, no offence to the guys on this years team, but they're not on that level, and the best to hope for is 100+ pts, which often won't even crack the top 6 teams. considering there's only 12 full teams (roughly), you're right, that's sad, but not changing until our best guys start making WCCC a priority.
Wow! Only two countries made the podium in individual rankings. So the rest of the world was really only competing for team four team bronzes.
