If your hurt real bad, not an inguinal, and maybe not EXACTLY what meyers is looking for but you need help, becaue your pelvis is screwed up real bad, if meyers doesn't help, and simply leaves it at that, not another word from him, think about it, what are you going to do then? I think this boy is the pioneer in this pelvic repair stuff, but he may have really limited his practice to sure home run hits.

I like the j bird name ;)I still think if he tells you he doesn't believe he can help, why on earth would you try to push him? Go find another doc who has ideas about your problem and think he can and wants to help. I know other docs are limited but I would never push a surgeon to cut on me if he didn't firmly believe he could help.As for Meyers, his practie is limited becuase he does his specialty, liver surgery, first and then he does the sports hernia stuff. Furthermore he has people lined up to fix their pelvises so I don't think expanding his services is in the cards.j bird

****I'm definetly no doctor, but I can tell you unabashedly that no matter how much research you think you have done, you (or anyone else here) really don't know what you're talking about. I figure if someone has already turned you down for getting your problem fixed (who sounds like he does this stuff for a living), you are setting yourself up to be disappointed and then disgruntled with your other doctor that you talk into giving you your operation. If you are angry with the turnout however, please come back to the board as soon as possible. We can never have too many people on here who are angry at the world...

I must admit, I don't think I am very happy with the follow up care provided by meyers, and I think a number of people are not very happy with his attitude or bed side manner. I have noticed a number of threads related to no rehab direction at all.
Well I was a mess and Meyers did turn me down.
I was far from a homerun as you call it.
Maybe that was why he turned me down, who knows who cares.
I've all over the place and I would go to Germany but I bet it's the same surgery I had five years ago.
My igunial canal was huge and a vein was not functioning at all. I have the pictures to prove it, but at this point I most likely need my longus released and I have no idea who knows how to do that.
If they perform that type of surgery in Germany I would go there this summer.
But from their website it looks like more hernia repairs and I have had enought of those.
I hate to speculate on why Meyers would not help me.
First of all thank you for easing the mind. I am having the exact issues and it def. gets in your squash. I have had this for 2 months now and it seems to be going no where.
The pain is not an issue you just know something is not right. Seeing some of the time people have been on the shelf is discouraging. No clue when it happened...just turned 36 have run my entire life never had an injury and now have people calling me old, fat, and it finally caught up to me....

I seem to be experiencing some of the same symptoms as other people here. I have a pain near my adductor and when I try to run fast or run long, my right groin area gets really tight. I have been adjusted, had ART done on the area and it seems to make it tighter. I have started to back off on the mileage a bit (from 75mpw) to about 50 mpw and have tried running on all surfaces road, grass, track, trail,etc. to see if that would help. over the past two weeks it seems to get a bit better after shorter runs and maximizing the amount of time between runs, but I am unsure as to what to do from here. I see a number of symptoms from other people on this thread and have felt the majority of them throughout this injury. I am from the Mid-Michigan area, so I am asking if there are any people out there who know of a doctor that would be able to look at me and help me out without just passing it off as something I need to "stop running" to heal.
Any help would be appreciated.

You can go for a consultation with Dr. Richard Cattey in Milwaukie as a starting point. If you have AP you can decide on the method of repair that you are most comfortable with - search through this thread for opinions of those who have gone before you.

Sit ups, running, any twisting movements - these have been giving me some serious pain over the last two months. Play soccer so that may have done it - also lots of situps that focus on lower abs. Just saw a doc yesterday - he said it's likely a sports hernia. Coughed, etc. No protruding intestine, yet. Gave me ibuprophen and told me not to do any physical workout for 6 weeks. That's going to be just about impossible. Anyone know of a good sports doc in Massachusetts or southern New Hampshire with some realistic suggestions for a guy who just turned 50 and isn't planning to become sedentary??
Yes, I had surgery last week for a bi-lateral sports hernia. Let me tell you what a painful surgery. I went to 5 doctors and finally one of them found my problem. Please feel free to email me with any questions I would be happy to help,Nate and I live in Colorado too

I am just did an 8 miler and felt pretty good. I had the surgury about 7 weeks ago.
I don't agree with the lack of follow up statement. He called to see how I was doing.
Seems like an alright guy to me.
I may not get back to 100% what I was before but I am much better then 4 months ago.

ok hi all, i was hoping for some input on my situation, everyone here is saying how they had lower abdominal pain, is that a required symptom for a sports hernia? So for almost a year now i've been having off and on pain in my groin, at first i thought it was coming from my hip flexors, but either it changed or i was just mistaken. I took 4 to 5 weeks "off" eliptical and bike and was feeling much better. I then had to undergo an intenese tryout and am back to the pain from before. At first the pain was mostly a tight ache with sometimes pain. Over the rest period the pain became sharp and during certain movements, or raising of the legs. Also when i sneeze it shoots out. I have gotten an MRI which showed nothing, and was sent to physical therapy. I am doing stretches everyday and have only seen minor improvement. Does anyone have any input or need anymore information?
Very pleased to have found a posting to an injury that many DR's are not too familiar with. I am a Police Officer and I live in Philly so I will be calling Dr Meyers for an appt. I am 33 y/o M and also play semi pro football. Our practice field is in bad shape. I play D-back, so there is alot of cutting and twisting while covering Receivers. I thought about wraping my lower abs tight with an ace bandage to see if it would help. After reading your posting, I do believe I have a sports hernia. I threw my pelvis out 2 weeks ago and have been seeing a chriopractor, and my hip is now back in place. Problem is, my lower abs pull extremely hard when I run. My groin is tight as well as my hip flexors are. A few guys have said I may have a sports hernia. With that I did a search on the net and found this site. I have a better understanding of this injury, and am lucky enough to live in Philly. Hopefully if I do have the surgery I will be back to work sooner than later. Had lower addominal pain after running a marathon 3 years ago. Rested the injury for a month before going to doctor and was sent to physical therapy. After 6 weeks the pain was worse. MRI, CAT Scans, and traditional hernia physical showed nothing. I could not raise my legs off the ground while laying flat on my back. This also caused sharp pain in groin and lower ab. Saw a general surgeon in Rochester, NY (Dr. Joeseph Johnson) who told me I had a Sportsman's Hernia. He claimed I would be running 4-6 weeks after surgery with no pain. He had done several of these surgerys on Professional Soccer Players from our local Rochester Rhinos team. He was right and I've been running pain free for 2 1/2 years now. You need to find a doctor that is knowledgable with this type of injury.
Has anybody else continued to have problems after surgery for sports hernia?
It's been two years since I had sports hernia surgery and I've continued to have a series of injuries--tightness and pain around the groin, adductors, hips and even the knee.
I thought I was doing great for the first six months after the operation but then the wheels just fell off. It's been one thing after another and nobody can put their finger on the root of the problem. Core strengthening and stretching don't seem to do the trick.
Anybody else have chronic problems after hernia operation?
