He earns that money. You dont. If you are as smart, as hard working, as willing to work for money than you would be making what he is making.

Guess what...you are making 1/5 of what he makes because you have no valuable skills. What is your profession???

No one is comparing you to being a billionaire. Don't put yourself in the same category as those squeaking by on $50k or less a year. Maybe think about living a modest lower-middle class life. Doesn't matter what are of the country you live in, $250K is a ton of money. Perhaps you should seek out a financial planner to help you get your spending in order.

Even U of I is at $15k for In-State tuition (probably more). Depaul is $40k plus for anyone. College is VERY expensive. I'd say $30k is pretty average that most people are paying.

The OP pays more in taxes than a lot of people gross. Sure he takes home a lot, but think about paying the federal government that much money each year. Wouldn't it gall you to see how much is wasted on BS? Would you really want to send them more money than that?

In my career I have had jobs paying $20K and jobs paying $150K. No matter where I was on the pay scale, I never wanted to pay more taxes and never felt rich.

Yeah, sometimes I had some extra money but you need to have extra money in these times because incomes are so hard to maintain and expenses can be so high. The OP is a job loss and major health problem away from bankruptcy. The guy should not be demonized or treated as rich. He has some extra income at this time, that's all. I don't see why the government thinks it should have this extra money.

Personally I think the cutoff where someone is "rich" is net worth above about $2, maybe 3 million. At that point they could pretty much pay for kids to college, major medical claims, and live off their money for a pretty long time. Anything less could be wiped out very fast by bad health problems or even bad luck (such as your home or business flooded/destroyed). The OP has high income, but isn't rich as far as we know.

I know what U of I costs. My point is that I don't believe most people have parents that pay for it out of pocket.

No. I wrote nothing about who deserves what. There are people willing to pay her millions. Good for her.

The point I contested was the suggestion that a person who makes more than than someone else necessarily does so because of intellect or work ethic. Kim Kardashian would seem to disprove that person's statement.

If it helps provide a better education and safety net for those less fortunate, and a better infrastructure, which is to everyone's benefit, then yes. I think it's pretty consistent that the countries with the highest standard of living have a much smaller disparity between the rich and poor in their societies.
