Webb stormed off the track and let his frustrations out. Who has never done this after a race? And I'm not talking about the 50 something that just got done running his third marathon after training 4 days a week. I'm talking about someone that put in 6 or 7 days a week of pure base over months, building up to speed and interval work for a goal race. If you have never competed in a race then you would not know what its like to fall apart like that. If you are out there to COMPLETE a race, then go read Runner's World, buy another fuel belt for your weekend warrior runs and walk half your training runs. Now, I personally have never competed on a large scale, just some State Track and Cross meets in High School, but in those races you see your competition that you read about in other races. Not some dude you met on the weekend. Im talking the people between you and glory. I remember finishing 9th at the state meet in xc my senior year and telling my mom off, saying f*** off and get out of my face. I told my coach to go f*** himself when he kicked me off the team because our asst forgot to tell him i had a 102 fever before a race when i was 30 sec off my PR (which he realized and was forgiven). People mess up in races.

Prefontaine went out to win races. He had that fire and desire to be the best. Everyone talks about him and that desire, but if you have never trained for it then you don't really know what its like. When your world revolves around training for specific races with goals of wining and not just finishing, things change.

Webb has the desire and heart that most people don't. You can't run a sub 4 mile and be a loof. He has talent that's for damn sure. I remember going through High School right after he came through. All the talk was being the next Alan Webb. My team hated the kid. All thought he was a douche and was gonna burn out. Well, I think some of that fame and that damn book got to his head. He was not ready mentally for what happened next. He should have stayed at Michigan and trained and not gone pro to get the glory. He needed a mind check that he never got. He is "Alan Webb." He has goals for himself that he is not acheiving so that is tough to swallow.

We put him in the spot light because he is "Alan Webb." What if after the race, Garrett Heath would have blown off some f bombs and ran in frustration a workout to let some steam out? No one would give a crap. But, "Alan Webb" did it. What about Manzano? How about his race? Nothing out of his camp at all. Webb is the name, he gets the story. He is the Lebron of American Running right now.

While Webb isn't the most mature or restrained runner, he is passionate, which is a lot what has taken him to his heights. It can be both good and bad. I love watching his emotion during his imfamous scream after the 2004 trials, or falling on his knees in triumph in USA's 2007. It can also be bad when the guy is injured or has a bad race, but you shouldn't knock a guy for being passionate about his sport. That's what we need. And especially for a guy like Webb who's been through extreme highs and lows and gets ripped apart on here for everything he does, writing that artical was shameful at best, and I cannot understand how anyone thought it was a good idea.

Tom Davis finds passion unacceptable and unprofessional. Therefore all elite runners are prohibited from showing any passion.

It occured to me, this isn't the first time we've had a thread like this in response to a snotty behavior from the brojos, where in one of their responses to criticism they mention "I wasn't there".

Remember when rojo told runners to "grow a set" at a hot race, from the comfort of his home hundreds of miles away?

If you are going to defend an article like this, you should have at least been there.

Piling on of second hand information makes the tone worse and tabloid like.

You have your moderators clip some harmless threads on the message board, you should turn them loose on your own work wejo.

I can't get over the creepy voyeur videos they posted of their less than heart felt attempt to pretend to not be taking video of him. If you are going to videotape someone either 'grow a pair' and do it, or don't bother at all. But the turn and feign innocence thing is just creepy.

Are the brojos basically the only one's supporting the article on this thread? (I haven't read the whole conversation, so that question may be null and void.)

I will say, that if the article was only interested in the way Webb's intensity has helped him and hindered him. It would be interesting, but that's not what the prerogative appeared to be. The article that was published was for the most part voyeuristic trash. If the Brojos thought they were publishing a cutting edge in-depth article on the psychology fueling Webb, and still think that the article could have in anyway been positive, then my opinions of the site have severely dropped.

i didn't feel up to reading the 12 pages of comments, so if this has already been stated, my apologies for the redundancy. being a professional sport athlete makes you a public figure and a role model. webb's actions in a public place have every right to be reported on and he should know that, it comes with the territory of his profession. i am sure there are other people that saw his actions and it sounds like he really set a bad example for other athletes regarding sportsmanship. i do not believe in censorship whatsoever and i am glad that the article was posted. all people should be held accountable for their own actions. if you don't want a "negative" article created about you in regards to your inappropriate behavior, then don't act inappropriately. if anything, webb should be apologizing for the way that he acted. also, isn't it true of any conversation that it offers an opportunity to create understanding? i say this article offers webb an opportunity to explain himself appropriately and make the situation "right." i also find it interesting how many people who are criticizing the authors of the article because of the tone of it are using much worse tones and language.

despite you trying to make me feel small in your post, i do appreciate the video and your thoughts (& that's not sarcasm). but, i do still stand by what i said. if not an apology from webb, then an explanation. we all want to know what the truth is, so to hear what he has to say about it would be great. perhaps it was inaccurately interpreted to us. at least the article opens the conversation and gives him an opportunity to talk about a very important topic and one that most if not all of us can relate to. but, like i said, as a public figure, as is the nature of his profession, his actions are under scrutiny. there are so many people that look up to him. i would love to see this turned into a big positive for him. the world needs more people who can set a high standard of living in terms of character. i do believe this is part of the responsibility of professional athletes. they are some of the most admired people in the world. i'm not doubting that alan has great character. he has achieved levels of greatness that we all can aspire to in some way or another. that's why people love him. perhaps it was a moment of weakness as we all have and can relate to. and i would love to see him prove this article completely wrong.

No one in the last 12 pages has suggested the story should be censored. It is the sensationalist judgmental tone that is being criticized. Letsrun has been making huge strides towards legitimate journalism over the last few years; this was a big step back.

Another part that bothered me in the Brojos journalism was when they posted pictures from the meet and claimed they did not know when some pictures of Alan Webb were taken( http://www.letsrun.com/photos/2011/nbindoor/imagepages/image16.php ) There are pics of Webb looking 'excited' and they tag said pictures as we do not know if these are before or after. This picture is scattered amongst many others throughout the meet. Has anyone ever taken a picture on a digital camera and not known the order in which they were taken?
