Deena dissed at Paso Robles 10k

The people who have had the opportunity to meet Deena all are so uniformly disgusted with this thread that they have not bothered to interject a response. There literally are hundreds of high school and college XC runners who have done their training camps in Mammoth who will tell you that Deena has selflessly taken time out of her training schedule to sit down with them and talk about training and answer their questions about running. Further, I know that there is at least one entire college XC team that can tell you that Deena not only was willing to talk running with them, but invited the entire team over to her home for dinner and personally prepared dinner for the entire team. There probably are few more thoughtful caring people in the sport than Deena.

On her website she shares a simple comment about her plans to do a race and get in a recreational weekend that didn't work out, and a bunch of petty envious people turn it into a supposed complete psychological profile of her. Get a life people.

why is everyone making a big deal outta of this? Deena shouldn't have had to ask in the first place she should've simple told the race director she was interested in running his race and he should have made all the arrangements.

what the hell is wrong with deena kastor? is she so arrogant to think she should never have to pay to enter a race? i'm sure she's got plenty of money from race winnings and her contract i'm gonna go ahead and guess $25 is less than pocket change for her. i can't believe she actually did not run a race that she wanted to run simply because it was gonna cost her 25 bucks. man, some people are just straight up greedy and too damn proud for their own good.

My guess is that Deena probably gives much more of her time/money to good causes than 90% of those on here bashing her for being "selfish" or "petty." It's absolutely amazing how many assumptions people are making based on one sentence. Only on Letsrun...

What the hell are you people smoking?.....how does she bring thousands of dollars to the race???.....Elite runners arent gonna come in and do the thing because she is there and if they do they are gonna want comped entries just costing the race more. The back of the packers could care less as well....do you really think there are hundreds of runners that would decide to do this race simply because she might say congrats as they crossed the line or because they might see her for 90 seconds on the front row at the start? Any publicity that she would get the race at this point would have been local anyway.....you think people in that area arent already aware of the race and have decided to run or not run by now? Maybe its not those that devalue worth that are the problem but those that inflate what they worth to local races.

I agree with you. She brings nothing to the race, if she just was going to show up, run and leave. I saw nothing that said she was going to promote the race, do a clinic, take pics the day before at race headquarters or anything of the sort.

If I knew Deena or some other pro was doing a local race I would enter to meet them or just to say I ran a race with them. I think more people than you think would do the same.

Hell, look at how many people PAID MONEY to run with Dean K.

Deena does not deserve all the bashing she is getting here.

This is just one little incident getting blown WAY out of proportion.

Someone else making assumptions... "if she just was going to show up, race, and leave." Nice job, Sherlock. As many have pointed out, she is one of most gracious stars we have in our sport and her record proves that. I've certainly wasted too much of my own time on this ricidulous thread, but I continue to be amazed at how much people are reading into one innocuous sentence on her website. Get a life.

Log her entry as a cost of putting on the race. I bet the sponsors would have understood that. She wouldn't have cost the charities anything, she more than likely would have benefitted the charities.
