How do you know it is throws? Am I missing something?
I spoke with JD their head coach about the position as I thought it was in my event group. Throws coach left late in the Fall and HR just gave them permission to post for a new hire this week. He didn't tell me why there was a 5 month delay between old coach leaving and new posting being made.
SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University Athletics announces the retirement of Pat Tyson, the esteemed Director of Cross Country and Track and Field and Men's Head Coach,
The man loves the sport. It seems on brand that he wouldn't want a year to really say goodbye. Dude has dedicated his life to the sport- it quite literally is the only family he has.
Pat Tyson isn D Bag and has been for a long time. Happy to see him go
Haha. You are of the .000001% who think this about Pat Tyson. He’s an incredible human being. Please have the guts to say that to someone at a meet and see what happens.
Head Coach Sauerhage has announced his retirement from UTA on social media.
I’m hearing of a few more retirement announcements to come. Big shake ups will happen in Texas but a lot of the people who are next up, no one is talking about on here. Wonder why?

There’s some great T&F happening in TX, and then there is massive underachieving as well.
As for the underachieving majors, UT is going down hill, and Houston is maybe the worst major program in the NCAA.

Texas for sure is but to say Houston is worst major program is a bit of a stretch
St. Cloud State adding another full-time assistant coach. Looks like it’s distance specific. Just announced they’re adding men’s XC for fall of ‘26 too.

Is it worth going after this or staying far away from it? No men's track btw.

They had some decent men's sprinters a couple of years ago, but other than that they're abysmal. The only teams they're beating in XC are essentially club teams at this point, and on the track they're not beating any programs with real investment into T&F. They'd struggle to be competitive in any season even if they moved back to the AAC.
This program sounds like a mess from what I've heard. The women's XC team didn't get to compete at regionals this fall because the head coach didn't run the full team in enough meets. The team didn't find out until the trip home from conference.
May not be good... but to say worst... quite a few other schools in that conference that should be emphasized about how bad they are since they havent even been last.
Houston's a sprint program, not a distance program Historically, Houston has been elite in sprints/hurdles and non-existent in distance Which works in track scoring when you have elite athletes... but xc depth is everything So yeah — some XC finishes look bad, but that’s more about roster construction than pure underachievement
