This is F***ing ridiculous, 25 of the top 30 finishers in the Men's XC NCAA Championship were international. Most from Kenya. We need to save the NCAA and limit internationals, limit the ages - and drug test them.
Top Americans:
2nd - Rocky Hansen
7th - Gary Martin
16th - Colin Sahlman
25th - Aiden Smith
28th - Ethan Coleman
What the f is wrong with you? Seriously? The NCAA’s goal isn’t to serve young US athletes, it’s to “to provide a world-class athletics and academic experience for student-athletes that fosters lifelong well-being.” Inclusion and diversity is of utmost importance, as well as academics. Coach Smith is providing that within the rules set by the NCAA. If you have a problem, go and enact change to make the NCAA more exclusive to US athletes. This is so much different than the European clubs that I won’t even stsrt there.
By your own definition of focusing on academics, the NCAA is failing. They are admitting bad students from foreign countries and they don't even speak English.
The priority is winning and making NIL money, not academics.
These Kenyans don't even understand basic things like run in between the lines in XC, don't go over the lines and past the hay bales LMAO.
By your own definition the NCAA is all screwed up and needs fixing.
By the way, 83% foreigners and 17% Americans is not very diverse. This Americans are the "minority" and we need more of them.
Salma Elbadra started her collegiate career at Wyoming. When she won the MWC indoor mile, her coach had to do the interview because she could not speak English. How can you attend an American university and not speak English?
South Carolina freshman Salma Elbadra stormed to the win in the women's 6k at the NCAA Southeast Regional, crossing the line in 19:03.1 and beating runner-up Hannah Gapes by five seconds.
Did anyone else notice that in previous years they had everyone’s hometown and country in the NCAA live results, but this year they didn’t? Maybe to draw less question to the amount of foreign athletes?
Sure it's unfair, but also unsolvable. i'm an old soul and I recall they were having this same debate as far back as the 70's.

The biggest problem with that is that the coaches would give everybody the workouts they gave to the top foreigners. Invariably, the local freshmen would get injured.

Listen dude, if you have the evidence showing this, then go out and try to enact that change. Otherwise, nobody will care. Dave Smith’s trophy doesn’t give a sh*t.
If you drug test everyone at the same level , far more Americans than Kenyans will be eliminated. Whom do you think has more access to PEDs in America ? Most Kenyan runners in the NCAA do not have the financial means to procure PEDs and since they are college students, they don't have agents to help them with an advance.
I am mystified by these accusations of Kenyan doping. I know it’s a problem in some places, but per the recent WaPo (or was it the Times?) article, schools are basically sponsoring a recruiting combine in rural Kenya. These are people basically off the turnip truck; who would be spending money to dope them, and how would it continue in college - at least without the complicity of their coach?
Here’s another question on this issue: Sticking with Kenyans, what typically happens with those who come over to compete at U.S. schools in the long run? It is a potentially life-transforming opportunity for a talented but relatively impoverished runner from the Kenyan hinterlands to come to the United States, compete at a high level, and study at a major university. Are the schools helping these people achieve a better life, or are they using them up and spitting them out? How many of them manage to take full advantage of that and, whether or not they end up competing professionally, make a life improved by that U.S. experience (in the U.S. or back home?). I can think of a few like Bernard Lagat, Sally Kipyego, those who went through the Army (Paul Chelimo, etc.). The real scandal and outrage in these foreign collegians is if people end up back in Kenya having burned up four years of running, with little useful education, few job skills, etc.. The tragic life of Henry Rono should certainly be a cautionary tale for NCAA coaches.
Is this the meet people want?11/23/2025 6:02pm EST6 months ago
I personally don't give a crap about foreigners running but people here seem to be going bats#it crazy the past 24 hours. I dropped all foreign females (there were 133 Americans, 129 foreigners) and rescored the meet. Only BY...

This must be a record. In the past the All-America cut-off went to the point of the 25th American runner. Usually around 40th place. I was All-America the first year that cut-off was put in place -- 39th in 1974. Before that it was 25th place regardless of nationality. 25th was usually around 40th for years after that.
Does anyone have a historical record of All-Americas?

Only 1/4 of the "All-Americans" were actually American. The "All-American" honor should be reserved for the top 40 Americans. Top internationals can have another label if they want.
