Right as the final regional is going final, we'll start a live stream at 2pm ET to tell you who is selected for NCAAs. You can access it here or on x or on facebook/instagram.
So biggest ranked upset is ranked 20 Tulsa not making it despite having a very tight pack. No low stick did them in. 21 Oklahoma being so close to them makes it not seem that big though.
Other than that, Boise State missing out due to the chaos in the west with their poor results elsewhere. They have a really solid top 4 that could have done damage at nationals.
I feel like in most years getting 4th in the west is enough to get you in, but not this year.
The West region has been down for a few years now. UW, Portland, and Stanford have all dropped off a bit. Gonzaga, who has been good the past half decade, is having a down year. Arizona and Arizona State used to be powerhouses but are now complete jokes. Cal Poly used to make nationals every-other year isn't what they once were. WSU is only good because decided to put all their T&F resources into XC/distance this year and brought in four Kenyans.
Back in the day, we used to use a simple spool. Each number had a tear-away tag on it. As the runners crossed the line, they were put in order (sometimes by physical force) by officials at the finish line. They then entered the chute, narrow enough for only a single file line so nobody could try to move ahead of anyone else. Tags were torn off at the end of the chute and put on the spool in order. Afterward, the tags were numbered in finish order, taken off the spool, and taped to a large table under each team's name. Any team without 5 finishers was eliminated and for the rest, points were added up by hand.
It worked about as fast as the South Regional did it by computer today.
I’m confused on how Louisville pushes in from 6th but Stanford doesn’t despite Stanford beating them handily at Nuttcombe and ACC’s?
Basically, Stanford never gets to the point where they're able to be selected. Only the next two unselected teams from a region get looked at, so because Boise and Portland (ahead of Stanford) have very few points, they never go off the board and thus block Stanford from ever getting picked. The teams ahead of Louisville all have enough points for selection, so the door opens for them.
I see, so resting is not allowed....and unless you were there to see the runners on fumes, perhaps they somewhat coasted in with team victory and qualification well in hand. 19:03 on that course is not slow.
So Englehardt is resting? Hartman is not. Her season is over.
What does seem odd is that it appears Hartman did not travel with the team. Engelhardt apparently did travel with the team.
She is too old to run Junior World Championships. If she did compete (which I highly doubt) she would have to run in Senior Division.
I was already a college Sophmore at Jane's age.
Which makes you uniquely young for your grade. Jane is on the older side for her grade, but the majority people born in September would be turning 18 as a high school senior. Wasn't the case in New York for instance 50 years ago, but is the case now. It is a scheduling quirk that the World XC takes place in January and thus wipes out basically all 19-year-olds.
My comment is that this athlete started doping in high school and is doping now. People saw the Valby circus and saw the rewards.
Hedengren: 19-year-old college sophomore - been tested by USADA 4 times this year (1 in 1st quarter, 3 in 2nd quarter)
Tuohy: 23-year-old professional, been a pro for two full years - ZERO tests in her entire life
Dominated HS, dominated college, turned pro and entered the testing pool, now barely faster than she was at 15 and much slower than she was in college.
All "red flags" point to Tuohy as 1000x more suspicious.
