Why would you feel bad for Wightman, he ran the race to his potential. It's not like he was sick or injured or got tripped or something. He ran to his potential and got silver.
Also why did Kerr keep running? He looked seriously injured, and ran another couple laps. Whoever sprinters pull something, they stop immediately for a reason. I get he doesn’t want the shame of dnf’ing, but just seems so harmful to run, literally limping through the second half of a global final as he increases his chances of this becoming way more serious than it already was.
only thing I can think is that it was just a cramp or something more serious but he thought he'd just been spiked
Looked like something popped as he was running. I think he must have been carrying something coming into the champs and he was hoping it would hold up. Silly decision to carry on running. Could cost him a chunk of next season as well
Just about the perfect race tactically from Jake. If it’s a 3:33 race he probably wins. What a kick from Nader though, sometimes you just can’t match a close like that.
Nader is coached by Enrique Pascual Oliva, legendary great Spanish coach of the likes of Olympic Champion Fermín Cacho, World Champion Abel Antón and European Champion Reyes Estévez. Humble PE teacher, coaches for fun at his hometown in the middle of nowhere in Soria. You want to be coached by him, you have to move there. So did Nader and his partner Salomé Afonso.
No offence, but none of those athletes were clean.
Estevez was linked to Operacion Galgo, and Anton was implicated in Puerto.
I was tipping RCheriuyot at 200m to go, but Nader and Wightman lifted.
All I can say is that these results puts Jakob's achievements and losses into perspective in this era of 1500m running. It is a ducking hard event.
Yep, so far, he is still the best careerwise. Kerr took a huge dump today and didn’t change the needle. Let’s see who has the last laugh of the gold medallists in 2027.
I really thought Wightman had it after he made the first move at 200. It's hard to pass someone with a half decent kick when they have the inside advantage like that.
