Coleman and Kovacs screwed by silly World Athletics rules. We need more opportunities for the best athletes to compete and make it to the biggest meets. If you win a Diamond League championship, you should be eligible for the next WC if not already qualified.
Don't disagree with this. But whether it's because of this or incidental to this, it seemed like he was at his fittest at Pre. Like Hobbs, did not seem like he was in peak form these last six weeks.
Possibly, you do have to remember at Pre, he tied up and ended up with a 3:29-low equivalent time. He did give running 3:44 a go, but he has run faster and he had good pacing for it. Of course it is harder to push that last 600 by yourself, but I feel like his fitness wasn't bad throughout the season. A little different than Kessler who didn't seem to reach his Millrose level outdoors.
The fact that the winners of the DL final (supposed to be the 2nd most important meet of the entire year) are not automatically qualified is such a scam. In the men's shot and 100m we now have guys missing world champs but winning the freaking DL final because the wild card spot has already been taken by the world champ.
Let 5 people in per country. Heck, maybe don't limit it per country for world champs and just save the country limit for the Olympics. DL final is a joke. A large amount of top athletes don't even feel incentivized to do it.

Preach. Instead we're going to let in some 10.1x runner who'll get bounced in the heats. I wouldn't even be so confident it will be from a smaller country.

You mean the rules that they knew going into the season and cant have any complaints about. Nobody wants 5 people from the same country in the World Champs, thats what the national champs were for. Should have finished top 3 there if he wanted to be there.

Yeah, I’m not even a big fan of USATF allowing four.
Diamond League question - are these "Meeting Records" the fastest times ever run on the Zurich track or are they the fastest times ever run in a Diamond League Final? What do they consider to be a "meet"? If it's the former, it feels a lot less impressive

Nobody wants to see 4 athletes per country, let alone 5.
Should have finished top 3 at the nationals if he wanted to be in Tokyo.

Zurich track. One of the earlier MR's that was broken went back to the 80's.

Why is running one of the only sports with this mindset? It's an individual sport. I went to the US Open and no one was complaining that the 5th Best US, Argentinian, or Spanish player was competing. People just wanted to see the best players and the most exciting matchups, not a less qualified Bulgarian to replace Grigor Dimitrov cuz he's hurt. AT some point yes, cap it. But defending champ and regular season champ is not that point.

Why does it matter that 5 guys are in per country? Let the world champs have no limit or at least let in the freaking DIAMOND LEAGUE CHAMPION.
Olympics are about participation per country and should have a limit.

In retrospect, barely losing to Laros was the highlight of his outdoor season. If he had gotten the timing a tiny bit better he would have won that race. Today he got 7th and was tactically fine. Just didn't have it. I feel like last year's Nuguse would have gotten 2nd in that race. This year's Nuguse is a couple of seconds off his best right now.
