How does Strand not win anything outdoors after that winter he just had? The coach is not very good, overrated for sure. Wolfe hurt and Strand sub par. Clown coach.
I don't know what's more embarrassing: ESPN not being able to sort the math out instantly (there really aren't that many scenarios, you should be able to add the 4x4 results to the previous scores pretty quickly), or the NCAA allowing ties.
How would you break ties?
Awarding an extra point or half point somewhere wouldn't be fair. You could have more events to decrease the likelihood, like adding a marathon the way the naia does, but coaches who aren't all in on distance will never allow that, same with another sprint.
Maybe the decathlon should count for more points. Schools that aren't big on field, won't allow it though.
I just don't see a solution.
The dec counting for more would be stupid. Maybe relays. The dec guy cost Arkansas the meet by going in higher then his season best in the vault anyways

last year Nico Young had one of the best indoor seasons ever and lost the outdoor 5K. nobody's fault, track is just hard.

Easiest is awarding the team with the most event winners. USC didn’t have a single one.

Maybe. Long season probably just left little in his legs at this point. Seems like they were working out pretty hard almost to nationals too, giving that Wolfe just got injured. 19 races across 11 meets since December, including heats.

My first choice would be to give it to the team with more 9th-place finishers. If that's tied, go to 10th-place finishes, and so on, using the prelim results if needed.

Strand looked the fittest in the 1500 field and i thought he’d win, but Green was better tactically. Green ran 3:32 last year so theres no big gap between Strand, Green, Spencer and Martin (who scratched an event at ACCs). Strand/Green have the best kicks. Strand is strong but when Hansen took off he was toast in the 5,000. He’s got a real shot at USAs but Kessler has gotten so much better tactically Id call him more of a long shot.

What’s the purpose of protesting? Even if Arkansas wins the protest, they still don’t win the meet right? It just affects of USC gets to be co-champion or not. I probably would have just let it go, especially since the contact really wasn’t all that bad

I think that would be a decent method to break ties for podium teams. Go to 2nd places if neither tied team has an event win, etc.

I 100% agree with what Dan O'Brien is saying: you have to advocate for your athletes. Protest if necessary. (not sure about this protest though)
I'm tired of complete disqualifications for minor infractions. Minor infractions in other sports don't result in athlete disqualification, but it does in track.

Strand looked fresh and full of run to me. His tactics are what prevented him from winning the 1500.
closing in 51.xxx cooked him for the 5k. I don’t care how fit you are the turn around to run the 5k final after that is extremely hard. I think strand can make the final at USAs and perhaps make the 1500 team if tactical.
