Yeah the total disregard for showing the time is bizarre to say the least. I saw a few 500m splits which made me laugh, who cares about that? And kilometers per hour? Also so hard to tell where in the race (or on the track) they are.
To everyone complaining about the times - just accept that you don't actually like track as a sport and stop whining. Actual fans of the sport love racing in whatever form it takes.
I thought it was strange too especially at some moments they did show 100m splits, which is what people are clamoring for. Very random presentation. I’d say just show the data and instruct Cram to not harp on it because it’s there but when they drop a sub-13.5 100 in a 1500 or 3,000 it is interesting.
If I listened closely I could hear the 400m splits from in-stadium announcer 🤦♂️
Why wasn’t Hagos here? he might have pushed it after his Kingston experience
Grant losing is a good thing. now he can’t let it come down to final 200 again. he needs to make sure he wins the 5K so the race will be more honest
one possible solution is to have half way bonuses like they do at 5th Avenue mile. or to just award $50K to winner of each race
The fastest men who race the 5,000m are not N’getich and generally are somewhat cowardly honestly. You have to give her credit for running the legs off people and in Worlds I don’t expect her to let Chebet to have a fun run for 9,600 before blowing her doors off.
The men meanwhile jog around for 4K and let Jakob take their medals in the 5,000. Maybe Aregawi would be different, and maybe Kejelcha too. I don’t believe anyone else would be. There is less separation on the men’s side but there’re also fewer athletes with N’getich’s mindset and fearlessness.
I can see Aregawi trying to take it out in Tokyo. The fact is, they all know that if they let it go at 13:10 pace, Jakob will stomp them all every time. Someone needs to put him in a hole and hope he can't get out. Aregawi and Kejelcha can front-run a 12:45. We think Jakob can hang with that and still kick but we don't know for sure. Aregawi owes it to himself to try and at least make Jakob uncomfortable

I agree that kind of strategy is interesting to see, but Jakob will not be uncomfortable. He'll just outkick them in last 100, or 200 or 400 or 800 or 1 mile, whatever he decides on the day. (Having three 1500 races in his legs) period
P.S. Jakob will probably be a 5000 world record holder in Tokyo

Watching the Day 1 coverage now. Again, opening the program with another 35 minutes of BLATHERING by awful commentators to open the program...especially the loud ass Sanya Richards-Ross who is just ANNOYING!!!
Sorry, Michael Johnson, but the presentation SUCKS!!!

Sadly the Ethiopians are likely to send Aregawi in just the 10,000. So you’ll probably see Hagos, Mehary and Yihune again. If we’re lucky maybe they give Kuma Girma a shot.

Which is wild because with his 3000m speed right through to his XC credentials, there is a case that he is the only guy gnarly enough to blast that mile from 3000-4600m which is kind of the only way to beat Jakob in these races right now. Guess we are in for another treat as we wait to see how bad Gebrhiwet will run tactically in this one - he might be the GOAT in terms of that.
The grand slam is boring, what people running times women can beat in the 3k and the only reason Kerr won is because Emmanuel Wanyonyi wasn't here. Did you see Kerr after he won the 1500m in a slow time hopping around like he just won the Olympics. What a phoney :) I watched the Diamond league 5k in Shanghai and it was exciting, down to the wire Aregawi, Girma, Sime in a 12:50 race and less than a second between the top three so much better than watching 3k race won in 8:17.56. What are these guys going to run the 5,000 in 15 minutes. No the 1500 was not exciting but can't wait to see Kerr and all those guys get smoked in the 800. The GS is good for the sprints, for watching middle distance/distance running it sucks, 100% rather watch the Diamond League meets. Hey but the winners are getting paid and that is what this is all about!

Which is precisely why this is not an attractive product. It's marketing "facade" was it being all about racing and rivalries. The reality is for Johnson, it's all about the bragging rights of saying "I have the richest track and field league in the world". Awesome for Johnson, the athletes and agents right now - it might be the sort of $$$ windfall the sport doesn't see for a long time after this one ends.
Next time you write a bunch of weird nonsense, please consider being normal instead.
Kindly reveal what was weird and what was nonsense! I’m a trained eye. I’ve been doing this sport before you were born or otherwise. Show some respect here. Or are you jealous you can’t articulate as fluidly as I do about the Miami Grand Slam Meet?
Nice kick from Kerr over Nuguse and Hocker, visibly but not a lot of time. However, Marco Arop had the most impressive race, challenging for the lead through 1400m and running a huge 2.4s pr, 3:35.95. If he was a 1:41.20 guy with a 3:38 pr, what's he going to do with a 3:35 pr in a tactical race when combining that with 50>48s in that broken workout? 1:40.x is surely going to happen in the next few months.
This foolishness in the 3k/5k is literally going to cost those guys a slot in future Grand Slam track events. If contractually obligated the rest of this year, they'll drop the 3k/5k next year. So, think about that, Grant Fisher, as you're calculating how slow a time will still get you your money this year.
