One possible idea to solve the issue of not immediately knowing the overall winner at the end of the second race is to use the times from the first race to stagger the start of the second race (ie, if you were 2 seconds behind the winner in the 800, then you start 2 seconds after the 800 winner in the 1500). It is a gimmick (as per the whole GST concept) - and would require individualized start line technology - but the overall winner would be obvious at the end of the second race (whoever crosses the line first) AND it would incentivize faster races rather than purely sit and kick. Thoughts?
This is such BS. The announcer explains how the point system is supposed to increase the "competitive" aspect of track and field, and then how Grant Fisher is calculating that he only needs to finish 3rd in the 3k in order to "win". Doesn't that seem contradictory?
Michael Johnson thinking.
”I think I can save sprinting, but not distance, hurdles or field.”
This is the thread for today. The meet is earlier today. 3-6pm eastern for TV (WB network/peacock) 1st race 3:42 pm eastern.
Every event today is a concluding event so the $100k will be determined in all the events today.
What do we think Jakob runs in the 800 if he had to race it? I honestly think he might have finished just beside Hoppel. He does well in heat. Maybe 4th
You can tell Centro thinks that was cowardly as well. Holding back a bit for tv. Not the mentality I wanna see from someone who think they’re gonna win gold at worlds.
If Gebrhiwet had planned ahead he could have just made the 5k this fast too. Don't hate the player, hate the game (although I found the races interesting).
This is a career for these guys, not a hobby like it is for the rest of us. Why would Grant expend more energy than necessary in order to bring home the bag? Don’t hate the player, hate the game.
Good for Hagos. Picking up $50k after a bad first run. I'm impressed Grant still has a kick today after the 51. Wasn't that the main critique about him before the Olympics. Always in it, consistent, but doesn't have the kick at the end? or the race wiles to move off the rail?
I love track. I would love this so much more if it were a different format. Are you one of the VCs that put money into this money pit?
Maybe make your own league then?
If you want to give me 30M, I would make a league 100x better than this.
I mean it's very simple, just copy the tennis format, have 4 major championships each year with EVERYONE, and then lots of minor meets that serve as qualifiers to the majors.
Why they went with this boneheaded doubling format I'll never understand
