Why on earth this huge focus on the negativity here? Armstronglivs’ bold predictions about Jakob losing and never being able to true greatness give, IMO, a interesting layer to the whole thing -in addition to watch Jakob succeed I will then also get to watch Armstronglivs eat crow. Hilarious!
Forget your project of turning opponents into supporters of your personal opinions. -You will never succeed. Neither will I. Armstronglivs voice is a very needed and fun voice here -also when he disagrees with yours truly….
I totally agree that having people with differing views is great for the discussion.
The problem is not his opinion. It's the way he expresses it; he is always the negative one, always focusing on what Jakob can't do, and he is always starting arguments and insulting others. I have never tried to turn him into a supporter of my opinions. I just find his behaviour obnoxious. Even more so when he insulted my teenage daughter. He has stated that he only comes to Letsrun to rile other people up. If you think that's a good thing...
Mrs Valby? You didn't like my comments about cross-training? Or another runner carving huge and difficult to believe improvements off their pr? Now we get to the nub of what gets you.

Is this what you and the dude consider humour? Did you even bother to use your brain? You even highlighted it; "teenage daughter". Apparently you are such a follower of the sport that you think Parker Valby is a teenager.
With his average 800m potential, it is complerely obvious that the 1500m can't be his best event. He is still already an all-time great at the distance and the best in the last four years. But he is far from "unbeatable" over 1500m.
For sure he is much stronger over the 3000m and most likely he is even bettervover the 5000m. We have to wait what he can do here in a well paced effort for a fast time.
I agree that the 1500 isn't his best event. I differ when you describe him as one of the "all-time greats" over the distance. No world records at the distance and nearly 4 years of defeats on the biggest occasions. That isnt one of the "all-time greats".
He clearly is one of the all-time greats in the event.
- 4 times fastest in the year (only El G and Morceli have done it more often)
- Olmpic Champ
- 2 times WC silver
- WC silver indoor
- positive win/loss record against all his rivals
- WIRs 1500m and Mile
- 4th and 3rd fastest 1500m/Mile
- many super fast times (inferior only to El G)
- 3 times EC gold
- 3 times EIC gold
El G and Morceli are 1 and 2 all-time. After them it's debatable. But Ingebrigtsen definitely already is in the top 10,

She was at one point. It's been a while since there was a thread. But your bantam-hen protectiveness is quite remarkable. If there is a teenage runner who is the subject of a thread they are still the object of comments here - like any runner is. That's how this place works.
Yes. The "plural" is that Jakob has lost several championship finals - so that is plural. Thank you.
Plural. Only Josh Kerr beat him more than once in a championship final. Thank you.
So Jakob's defeats only count if the runner does it more than once? The stats on his career say otherwise. You really aren't the sharpest tool in the kit here.

My daughter wasn't the subject of a thread, she was a poster on the thread. Posting about one of her highschool heroes.
You are Armstronglivs. You must get tired of constantly switching IPs. LOL
I read this aloud to my wife. Man, did she laugh! (She’s much better in English than I am, since she has English speaking friends, whereas I haven’t). Yes, for now I have been claimed to be “rekrunner” (an educated American), “Armstronglivs” (an educated NZ), “snowflakes” -very good English (aside of writing english without a capital first letter) -American? And “objectiveObserver” -very good English with some seldom flaws. -I’m honoured. Especially since English was my worst subject in high school. Only subject I flunked in, both written English and oral…

Sorry, your criteria don't meet what defines the all-time greats. They held the wrs as well as a consistent record of victories in the biggest championships. He's had too many losses at that level.

I only explained what the poster meant. You are making things up. Little, cute, childish insult at the end.

There's a saying, if you can't take the heat of the oven ...
It applies to every poster here. There aren't any special favours, based on age or anything else. I certainly know that.

What the poster meant was nonsense - and you have just proved it. But here you are, protecting the helpless on the thread. Do they ask you to?

The majority of posters here are far worse than Armstronglivs even when he deliberately is on his worst.
With the exception of TheAdultInTheRoom, there isn't a single poster like Livs. Wherever he posts, there will be conflict. He is the common denominator.
I get what you are saying, but a famous Scandinavian said: “Peace is not the best, but that you want something..”. As with all sayings not to overdo, but you get my point….

OK, Ovett is not an all-time great. Also not Ryun. Not Keino.
