This is not just about my daughter, it goes way past that. Over 10,000 student athletes will lose their roster spot because two lawyers who don't really care about the class members they are representing are only doing this so they can get a half a billion dollar payout. If my daughter had been cut because of her performance in a normal circumstance, I would say that's how it goes. However, her coach said that she wouldn't be cut if it wasn't for the roster limits. She would have stayed on the team. She still will be able to stay on the team if the settlement doesn't get approved.
Let me be the first to say that these roster limits are killing Olympic sports and I don’t agree with the SEC limiting their numbers more than the NCAA.
with that being said, some rosters are way too big. Having 30+ distance runners at high level programs is not necessary. RunnerMom - can you share what your daughter has done athletically since being there that warrants them to remain on the team? Cuts happen every year all over the country. More will happen this year due to new circumstances - but cutting underperforming athletes is not anything new.
