I usually don’t read running books, even though I’ve been coaching and running most of my life. Nothing against Magness and his books, but honestly, his books bore me to death. I’m not trying to insult him—Magness goes deep into sports science, psychology, and behavioral studies, which is great for those who want evidence-based info. But for me, it often feels dry and overly academic when I’m looking for something more narrative or motivational. That said, I just ordered Beyond Fast and hope it’s more exciting. During the Newbury Park era, my teams really looked up to those boys and Brosnan, so there’s got to be something worthwhile in reading it. We shall see.
