Something off with that speed rating as she only finished 10 seconds in front of an 8th grader and they would have placed 150th in the boys race. Typically, a strong performance for a top female places strongly in the boys race. Regardless, a great win. Looks like she dabbled in triathlon.
Anyone notice that Leachman ran a 16:32 the other day at some early season TX 5K?
Ryin Miller just matched it, breaking the Kansas state record by almost 15 seconds. this was her second sub 17 race of the year. still just a junior. she showed promise last year with some fast times but this is another level entirely. second place was 19:13...
It's always hard to rank teams based on last year, but IMHO Mountain Vista's top 5 is definitely better than Air Academy's. Any injuries at MV will reveal that AA's depth is superior, but my money is on MV to win NXN.
With the transfer of Guilfoile, Trabuco is solid, but not sure they deserve to be top 5 in the Country already. They may end up there, regardless. All 4 of the top So Cal schools were 1 runner short. Since Trabuco filled that spot, I agree that they should get the nod, especially after Ventura and J Serra's transfers both fell through. Santiago's class of 2025 depth may reveal someone to fill the void from within, but their top 2 are only 2nd best to Timpview's 1-2 punch. Even without a solid #5, Ventura and Santiago are both better than Gibbons, but someone probably didn't like the look of all top 8 being from CA and CO, I'm sure. ...and how does Milesplit not know about Summer Wilson leaving JSerra? They're still very good, but not top 10 without their standout #1.
Buchanan is so deep and are definitely the favorite in the CA race with everyone returning and solid new freshmen, but CO's top 3 are all going to be tough for any CA team to beat after an entire season at altitude.
AAs depth is superior??? Really? All Varsity Vista girls were under 18, then they had a perfect score in the JV race, and would have probably been the 6th place team in the sweepstakes race, then the Vista open girls win too. I'm not sure what depth AA has that you find superior.

I did notice that AA was missing 2 girls that ran at NXN last year but they were their 6th and 7th there so I don’t think it would have made a big difference.

Ryin Miller was 30 seconds slower than Leachman in the 3200 just a few months ago. I doubt that she is all of a sudden Leachman's equal. But Miller still ran a very good race.

Nobody said anything about Miller being Leachman's "equal". but shattering a state record and matching the fastest time in the country out of nowhere is worth noting. I would also note that she ran that very same course 70 seconds slower the previous year so clearly shes improved dramatically. we'll see what that means for her season of course...

Mountain Vista is a lot better
Not better, just more consistent.
AA just has a lot of injuries, a couple over involved parents, and a school coach of limited ability that sometimes tries his own regimen thinking it would be better than that of the club coach (Rainsberger) that the bulk of his 'A' team athlete's come from. This sets up injuries, and is a reason why we do not always see their top athletes each week.
