I’m not sure. Boffey has only run 2.01 this year. Alex Bell just ran 1.59.5 and Wallace slightly quicker. They won’t send Bell. For some reason they seem to not like her.

Another extraordinary 800m race by Pheobe Gill this evening at the Manchester BMC, 55 flat at the bell and held on to win in 1:58.08 as Ciara Mageean broke the Irish record in 2nd. Ms.Gill's time broke Keely Hodgkinson's track record.
She ran the first lap as fast as the pacemaker at Eugene in the DL race won by Hodgkinson. Nothing to it for a 17 year old who was running well over 2 minutes last year.
Doping, like poison flower, beautiful but deadly. But flower not poison itself, no? Someone give water, someone plant seed.

The usual reason for doping is maximise an athlete's chances to succeed - and that doesn't mean beating a bunch of schoolkids.
I would be impressed by any 17 year female running 55 for a 400, but to do it as an opening lap for an 800 speaks of something else. She would have been leading the field at Eugene.

Why would you assume she wasn’t doping at 16? Rationally if you are willing to dope at 17, you will at 16. See the Russian skater. And it isn’t like 16 years don’t have a long history of getting access to drugs….
Realistically until someone tests positive/confesses/avoids tots we can’t say some is a doper. And we can never prove someone is clean.

She's been setting British age-group records since she was 12. She's coached by people from her local club. There are no sponsors, no agent and hardly any social media presence. Why start doing something that risky now? Who would be behind it? She's not going to make anyone rich by winning BMC races.

What do mean "what's the motivation"? Same as always. To win and make a name and a career. As I have stated, I think the UK has a doping culture where the most talented juniors get on a doping track.

EPO was on sale without a prescription in Iten pharmacies until recently. Corruption is so endemic in Kenya that it's likely easy to persuade a doctor to prescribe it for a little 'tea money'.

Your expectations aren't aligned with reality. Plenty of high school girls aged 17 (and 16) run or have run 55 or faster in the 400m.
It's still a very good time for a 16-17 year old girl - and especially for a 2-lap runner. Mary Decker's best was just under 54. But for a 17 year old girl to run 55 in an 800 (who was nowhere near 2min for the 800 a year ago), yeah - nah. As I said, she would have been several metres ahead of the field of international runners at Eugene.
