Hopefully the mens 5k finalists take some notes... you don't leave the best 1500m runner in the field in the race that long. Hoping we see someone go to the front and pace out an electric mens 5k final

Would rather see her shake up the 800 than go to the 10k

Awesome from Kipyegon. Loved seeing Hassan pushing all the way. That last lap was brutal. For the Americans, Cranny couldn't stay with the leaders but at least she was involved in the race, she was a factor. That's about as much as you can ask for

I get Hassan and Kipyegon wanting a slow race, what I don't get is why everyone else played into their hands. Why would the Ethiopians not push it over the last 1000? Once it became a 400 the race was over

Kipyegon seemed to have a lot left in the tank though.

She is also the WR holder at 5,000 so pretty sure it was irrelevant whatever they decided to do

Hassan seems so content with her silver and race tactics. Maybe she just realizes that she has no chance against Kipyegon at this distance with so many races in her legs

Race went to script. The only thing I would say - when Hassan moved up with 450 to go onto Kipyegons shoulder, I just don't know why you wouldn't go around go around her and go for it yourself. And she could have - she noticeably closed the gap then slowed back down as she got the shoulder.

I mean you have this big inspector gadget arm carriage deal going on that must be difficult to get around - the alternative is you think you are going to at some point kick past the WR holder in the 1500 and 5000? Again - running for 2nd in my opinion.

Surprised that Tsegay was out of it. Makes you appreciate Hassan’s strength even more.

Would have been crazy having Valby running for us in this race, sitting in the front forcing it to be a more honest pace

Seriously. If you aren't wearing a Kenya/Ethiopia/Hassan bib, why allow yourself to be lulled into a slow first ten laps? You know you're not sniffing the medals in a short race. NONE of them gave a breakaway a shot? At least try a 63s lap and see if you can separate. Yeah Kipyegon and Hassan will inevitably catch you even if they let you go for a while, but there's at least a chance of a medal or top 5. Truly disappointing. Welp, back to the diamond league time trials and being proud of sub-14:30
