A lot of people were wondering why Mechura ran in an open race last year.
After he won the championship race this year, he said in an interview that he lost his shoe at the 2022 state meet so he didn’t have his best race. Probably the time wasn’t good enough to get in the NXR championship race as an individual.
His NXR time last year wouldn’t have qualified for NXN anyways
Wayzata is returning their 1-6 and will also have Maddie Gullickson back next year. She won the 3200 state meet but was out this season due to injury. Big things to come for this team!
How will the Wayzata boys team do at NXN?
If Dietrick can get back to where he was last year (he was #3 on the team at NXN, and took 104th), they can do very well there
I just saw that Isabelle Schmitz (6th in the Girl's race at NXR Heartland) was granted one of the five at-large bids for NXN!
As a MN resident that makes me very, very happy!

As good as they were this season, with Maddie in the mix again next year they'll be a genuine powerhouse for the next two seasons. Jazleen M-O went from a varsity alternate (#8/9 runner) a year ago to their #1 this season. With a healthy Maddie vying once again for that lowstick position, and with all the returners steadily dropping their PR's throughout this season, Wayzata's girls should be a force in the Heartland.

Also, her brother Jackson Downin ran a 16:16 and his team won the open race with no seniors scoring.
Both ran for Tonka in the past and Abby also ran for Edina last year
Anthony Provenzano (former Hopkins runner who now runs for Carmel, Indiana) qualified for Footlocker nationals, but Sam Scott unfortunately did not
Clay Shively is scratched from NXN.
Good news: Looks like Jack Witte is in. Great to see. Witte was somewhat close last year. He is the first Millard West guy to go to NXN since 2016.
