You are dead wrong. As a fan I have every right to be mad. I am a dad to a 15 year old girl who happens to run the 800m. She looks up to Athing. I thought she couldn't have picked A better athlete to admire. She has been looking forward to seeing her run in Hungary. We have both wondered why she has run so little this season but in my daughter's words "she'll be ready, she always is." There are so few T&F fans left. I wonder why.
Thank God for athletes like Ryan Crouser and Femke Bol
I agree 100%, Crouser and Bol, are so much fun to root for (both humble and classy people). Mu is so much fun to root for as well, but now with this weird period many of her fans are moving on to root for other runners. After all it is hard to root for someone if they are not in the race......
In which other sports are any top athletes not present? Sydney literally disappears for most of the season and once in a while pops up to break the 400H world record. Sure she ran a few 400s this year but for the most part it hasn't been common for her to show up. What does it tell you? Think people.

I count 11 competitions this season for Harrison and 14 for Prandini. This isn’t a Kersee issue, it’s a McLaughlin and Mu issue. Neither of them particularly enjoy competing and they both earn so much from their kit providers that a bare bones racing programme doesn’t ruin their finances (that will change for Mu, however, should she end her season next week).
Top athletes use PEDs of course. Kersee has been widely suspected and accused of this. The most curious part of his statement is when he says “It’s in our control whether we’re just going to go ahead and train though this year….” This is very curious phrasing because normally you would just say it without the “it’s in our control,” as if he is almost intimating maybe there is the possibility that it isn’t. Otherwise we are all just speculating.
are you not aware she was insanely good before going to kersee? she has had an incredible progression and doesn't suddenly need his PEDS to run fast

as a fan you can absolutely be disappointed...but "mad" at her? you sound so entitled. "I have every right to be mad" ok sure. track is an individual sport. she doesn't owe you or anyone anything. she has to do what is right for her and we simply don't have all the info at this point. to feel mad at her is entitled and childish -not a great example for your kid

She absolutely owes to her country, to be at that level, paid a great amount, and refuse to compete? Inexcusable. Every chance to represent your country is an honor and privilege. So disappointing to see generational talent WASTED on someone who doesn't care. Many high schoolers working to be the last one to Q to a state meet care more than her.
One more reason to believe she’s become nothing but a Prima donna. She’s no longer a serious pro athlete. She’s a spoiled selfish brat that wants the fame and money but takes the easy way out. Run or shut up. I have zero respect for her at this point
I'm glad LRC's story included the comparisons to Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka, for better or worse. Clearly Mu is terrified of losing, and anytime she races, she has nothing to gain and everything to lose. This is sad because we all know even the best lose sometimes, and it's inspiring to seem them lose with dignity, then pick themselves up and win again and again. To a lot of fans, given what Mu has already accomplished, the next best thing is to become the undisputed GOAT, rising to the occasion time and time again (with some failures mixed in). This clearly either does not interest Mu, or else she is simply too scared of the chances/likelihood of eventual failure.
Not possible, the WR is not going to be broken, the 1:54s yes, but no one is running 1:53 clean.
That's exactly my point. She's disappearing because she's not clean.. and so when we see her suddenly running 153/4 hopefully it'll sink in.
Let’s not forget she ran 1:55.04 as a teenager. It would be surprising to me if she didn’t run 1:54 by the end of next year, especially with the strength she’s developed over 1500.
Athing Mu is healthy and training right now but will not run the 400 as scheduled at the Ed Murphey Classic on Friday and may not race for the rest of the year and focus on 2024.
“It’s in our control if we decide we’re just going to go ahead and train through this year and focus on next year, then that’s what we’re going to do,” Bobby Kersee said. “The training is going well but our thought process, openly, is that we’re going to just train here in L.A. for the next two weeks and the next time she gets on the plane it’ll either be on vacation or to Budapest.”
Mu has only raced at two meets this year and said after Worlds last year that she felt no need to rush back into competition as she adjusted to Kersee's training. It's also clear that she's interested in things off the track, such as modeling, but it would be huge news if she skips the Worlds entirely.

I have to say, while this is absurd, I almost expect it from Kersee coached stars, McGlaughlin barely races despite very low risk of losing to most, MU, even less..whats that 2 races or 3 in 11 months? Regardless of how much exposure they get thru Modeling or whatever, the Shoe sponsors who do pay them both at top money in the sport, cannot be that happy. Forget the fan, they (Kersee and sponsors)do not ,nor maybe should not care about that, but protecting a barely raced competitive position or record? What for? You become a non entity really, Mu kind of has..McGlaughlin clearly not. I do not get it, you would think by now with her 400 plus 1500 "off" events there would be or might be a 153.5-!;54.0 in there? Or are they proecting the fact that is never happening? I dont know..
I like my angle. Assuming she signed a contract through the end of this year and not through the end of the Olympic year. She probably spoke to syd to find out that syd probably makes $500k salary and now Athing Mu with the guidance of her coach are plotting to help her get paid even more. I could be completely wrong but it's fun to speculate. If she's tired of the pressure I get it and power to her but I'll be team Jemma Reekie going into the championships then lol 😆
Incorrect.. with that coach, it has everything to do with avoiding drug tests. How else do you think the miracles times keep happening? Even the athletes call him a magician... come on sheeple.
She ran 1:55 and earned an Olympic title + world title without him lol and hasn't beaten that time yet so what are you talking about. Stop projecting drug abuse insults with no positive tests to prove it.

Do you think I'd have a right to be mad if my favorite football team decided to tank for the #1 draft pick while they were a favorite to win the Super Bowl?
Pro athletes 100% owe us something. Where do you think the money that pays for their appearance fees, prizes and sponsorships comes from? If nobody showed up to events, nobody watched it on TV, and nobody bought the shoes, then these guys would be bagging groceries.

Stop it you drama queen.
Her talent, her business.she doesn't run for your benefit. And if she doesn't enjoy it, she should jog away.
Seems pretty obvious that Kersee's experiment with running Mu in the 1500 has backfired and Mu is not ready to compete in the 800. Kersee is just spinning it into some personal issue for Mu as to whether she goes to worlds, but that is ridiculous. No athlete in the world who is ready to compete at a world championship would decide to just skip it and train through it.

As for money., you are not paying her rent.
I mean in some ways we are. If a bunch of people boycotted Nike for her not doing worlds, they would cut her. She's a sponsored athlete to increase shoe sales (ie WE buy them). If we don't buy the shows because she doesn't compete, she doesn't bring in $$$ for Nike, Nike will stop giving her $$$ to pay her rent.
Bobby Kersee knows that a healthy Mu skipping worlds to focus on the Olympics in 12 months will generate far more negative attention than Mu running 1:57 and taking silver, right?
Why not say she's dealing with a minor injury? Or if this is a mental health thing, be upfront about that? A coach's first priority should be to protect their athletes, speculating like this is just gonna draw a tidal storm of negative press and really get the rumors flying.
Well just so we are clear it would be a sports psychology issue rather than a mental health thing right? Like we all understand what real mental health issues are in society right versus humans who get paid a fortune relative to the average American household to do a sport and then decide it’s not fun or too “stressful” for them anymore. Bottom line, who knows how forthright Kersee is here. I would still be shocked if she didn’t go to Budapest but then again I’m even a little shocked Kersee would say this even if it is just propaganda. Let’s reserve judgement because she herself might have had no clue he was going to open his yap.

The irony of you telling me how to feel and I'm the one that's entitled?
And childish ? There are few athletes period for girls to look up to. Found a good one for my daughter to emulate and there is a shot she may not be and I can't be mad because track continues to do a poor job of promoting the athletes and the sport ?
