It's not stressful at all for the kids right now. They are thinking about own race and not this story. If the rules need to change they need to change and it needs to be worked on for next year. Showing up in the stadium and causing an issue isn't going to help the girls that are in the race.
Right. And something should have been done last summer. So my question is: what has been done between the end of last season and now by whom? Did anyone on this board do anything?

What happened last year in California HS sports?
Didn't Athena Ryan make the state meet last year? I think she was eliminated in the heat there.
You still don't get it! How about the girl who misses qualifying for state by the one spot taken by a male? Maybe that girl goes to state and WINS or runs really well to earn a scholarship or a roster spot at a college program? Yeah!, that is life changing to an 18 year old. Maybe not yours, but it could for many others. Let alone that you've opened a HUGE can of worms which ultimately could destroy women's athletics, and judging by the down arrow count of your post, I don't think I'm off at all.
Good luck to your daughter this weekend! It's great that she is competing in the California 1600 State Championships. The most important thing is for her to do her best and have fun. Encourage her to focus on her own performance rather than worrying about what the other competitors are doing. Remind her that she has worked hard to get here and should be proud of herself no matter how she places in the race. Cheer her on and let her know you are proud of all of her accomplishments. Finally, make sure she gets plenty of rest before the race so that she can perform at her best. Wishing your daughter all the best this weekend!
Great Post! I agree 100%!
It's too bad that these young female athletes are being subjected to this. They shouldn't have to be concerned about whether they're competing against boys or not, just go out and run.

That’s hardly the equivalent of Lia Thomas. Even this year is unlikely to have much effect. Nothing has changed in Connecticut.
Given Ryan was in the 10th grade last year, they should have seen it would be a bigger problem this year. And if they don't do anything this summer, they could have an even bigger problem next year.
If anyone is genuinely concerned about this situation, they should write to CIF. Expressing your moral outrage on this message board wouldn't do anything.
It won't ultimately be decided in a court. It is a political issue. It will be decided by what society wants.
Come on. If it’s political, won’t the rules change when there’s a shift in the party holding power?
You're a little slow. That's effectively what I said - although I should have offered the caveat that as you no longer have a functioning democracy any solutions "society" arrives at will be partisan.
First off, this guy misgenders Athena. So he’s a loser. Second, he’s speaking for himself and nowhere does he say that his daughter agrees with him. 3rd, no reason to think this person is Kevin Johnson, Addie’s father.
Then this “champion of women’s sports,” Linda Blade writes this garbage:
“This is a defining moment for Adeline Johnson. A boy in her race robs her of achieving her dream of reaching the #California state #trackandfield championships.”
Did Linda speak with Adeline? BS, she has no knowledge that any of what she wrote is true. Just making sh-T up and putting words in the mouth of Adeline. It’s shameful.
Oh, btw, Johnson is running at the state meet…
You really love standing on a moral high horse, but you don't seem to understand that "misgendering" is a moral slight only within a niche, highly-privileged ideological community. Some people belong to religious groups within which using preferred pronouns is heresy. Others ground their morals and ethics in a secular framework but believe that preferred pronouns are harmful because they are not truthful. Even if one believes it is appropriate and morally-right to use self-identified pronouns that do not correspond with one's biological sex, forcing people to adopt other people's idiosyncratic moral frameworks is antithetical to a free and open society. It's totalitarian.
Lastly, Linda Blade is not putting words in Adeline's mouth. She's making an inference about her situation based on a widely-circulated video and the facts of the situation. Way back when we had a shared reality, people could talk about other people and their situations without being accused of "speaking for" others. We all understood that people are speaking for themselves. When speaking at all about anybody other than the self is taken to mean speaking for that person, we wind up in a situation where people can only speak about themselves. Logically, this can only lead to narcissism, which is pretty much where our culture is. Note: only in a narcissistic culture would people belive it is possible and necessary for individuals to demand that others/society view them precisely the way they want to be viewed.

If they try to put on a ban before next year, or anytime, they will undoubtedly be sued. If the CIF is advised by its attorneys that it will lose in court, there won’t be a ban. Letters to the CIF won’t change anything.

That's why no one should ask for a total ban. They should craft a rule that will not be overturned in court. And there are many examples from other states that they could use,

No, misgendering somebody, if done on purpose, is being a jerk. Denying people dignity, respect and autonomy is totalitarian, not the other way around. Whatever you think about Athena running in this MOC race, calling her, “her” costs you nothing. Not doing it is mean spirited. Nothing more or less.
As for Linda, total BS. When the left or the right manipulates the media NOT based in fact but fantasy, it’s a disservice to everybody. There is absolutely nothing on that video that indicates that Adeline is specifically upset that she lost to Athena as opposed to anybody else. Linda then warps it into saying that a “boy” has denied Adeline of her “dream.” What a bunch of crap. Everybody turning the athletes in that race into political pawns should be ashamed. As I’ve said many times, I’m a recent alumni parent of high level girls NCS running. You may think or assume that all of these athletes are outraged by Athena or think they’ve been violated by the CIF. You would be wrong. It’s far from a monolithic view point. Then you assume that anybody not outraged by Athena is simply caving to pressure or bullying. Wrong again.
A lot of moral outage there about stating facts. "Her", in this case, is a he, which is why the issue remains controversial. You might not agree with the media description that a "boy" denied the runner her "dream", but it is essentially correct in that a male denied a female runner the success she might otherwise have enjoyed. I suppose you're ok with that.

You don’t get it. That’s not how college scholarships are awarded. You really think there’s a scenario where an athlete barely makes the state meet, gets there and pops some massive pr and wins, never to have run this time before, or after and based on this race alone gains a scholarship? Honestly, that’s a fantasy. Every young woman in that race has multiple, multiple chances to run fast times against quality competition to earn a scholarship. Your fantasy of how it happens is no more likely than saying many of the young women in the race ran a pr BECAUSE Athena was in the race pulling them to a fast time. So they can thank Athena for their scholarship…..

There is no magical solution and how can they craft something that can’t be overturned on court? The solution at higher levels has been testosterone suppression but that’s not a good approach for minors.

I have seen a few scholarships given to athletes that the coaches have never seen or heard of before. So yes dreams do come true.

🤣🤣You are the king of moral outrage on these threads. I guess it takes one to know one.

If anything, there will be a lot more eyes on this race now…. Again, the other girls are benefiting in this specific case.

Based on one result in one race? No, that’s a fantasy. Don’t gaslight people and tell us that Athena’s presence in races this year is depriving anybody of a scholarship.
