$1.6 billion is an amount that their damages expert came up with, long before trial, as the damages if Dominion won on every defamation count, all of which had to be proven individually. If they lose on any counts, the number goes down. There is no such thing as an airtight case. Defamation is hard to prove, because news networks have the First Amendment and plaintiffs have to prove malice. Getting half of your damages claim without even going to trial -- especially when it's $787million from a mainstream news network for defamation -- is substantial and significant.
When the ink dried on the Settlement Agreement, champagne corks were popping at Dominion, and people were getting FIRED at Fox. There is no way to spin that except as a crushing defeat and capitulation for Fox in every way.
OK, thanks. That makes sense. I appreciate you not being snarky like a few others were.

All the snark was because you posted cope - not sound legal reasoning.
"Agreed" to part ways. Really? What naive person believes that?? Good riddance Tucker. I'm sure pootin and Moscow would love to pick you up so you can spew your ruZZian propaganda over in that barbaric country
LOL ... the Brojos changed the title of this thread never having had a job in the real world. ... Certain troublesome employees planned for firing are offered the opportunity to sign a legal "agreed to part ways" document. Murdock agrees not to sue Carlson for the lawsuit money, and Carlson agrees not to sue Murdock/Fox for wrongful termination.
Very unnecessary to change thread title . Even if he wasn’t canned from the title it was clearly someone’s opinion.
but first thing my wife said was “you know this means he was canned right?” She works in PR.

So who changed the title? They should lose their “moderating” privileges.
Don’t you constantly b!txh about how LRC is allegedly racist? Isn’t it more offensive to imply an African country is a sh!thole?
See, it's hilarious that you'd mention this, because in the process of trying to get me, you're actually outing yourself.
Uganda is a poorly developed country. That's a fact. Why is it so poorly developed? Because of history of colonialism, despotic leadership, and corruption. Adults call that "context".
And when thread after thread after thread talks about a similarly poorly developed area -- such as part of Baltimore or south Chicago -- it ALWAYS appears without any context, such as the effects of redlining, inadequate education, and disproportionate policing. Why do you think that is? Because those posters are interested in having a good-faith argument?
With context, it explains why. Without context, it dogwhistles the implication that the area is only bad because of the demography of the population.
Adults use context. Racist idiots who post on LR don't and for reasons I cannot fathom at all, the Daddy's Money BroJos don't seem to care. It's not that hard to differentiate between the two.
Hmm, I wonder what Uganda looked like before the British got there. I'm sure it was at the forefront of technologic innovation before the evil white man. Also Baltimore and Chicago have been run by liberals since before the civil rights era. Do you have any evidence that redlining or the police specifically caused the racial disparities in cities like Baltimore, or are you just repeating common tropes you heard on the internet? Here's a factoid for you, I bet you didn't know that redlining affected more white people than black people. Also, during periods of redlining, black wealth and home ownership actually grew. The "evil white racists caused all disparities between blacks and whites" argument sounds good on paper given the historical context, but in many ways does not hold water.
I'd welcome that. Take all of your crappy fly-over country with your meth-addict hicks and stop draining the resources of the vastly more productive and economically stable states. Watch it turn into Switzerland and Uganda overnight.

Exactly, called out
Here's a fun fact. Uganda has a higher literacy rate than New York. And that's despite that Uganda was ruled by a bunch of cannibalistic dictators a few decades ago who apparently still did a better job teaching their people to read and write than the Democratic Party
No, it was because people assumed they knew the intent of my question when they actually didn’t and chose snark over intelligent discourse.
It was cope and you got crushed.
If you go back and read my first post in this thread you’ll see you are wrong. You probably won’t bother so let me quote the relevant part for you. “Never cared for Carlson so not sorry to see him go. My only worry is that they will replace him with someone worse. Also not sorry to see Lemon fired. The difference in the two is that Carlson was a liar while Lemon is biased but mostly just incompetent as a host..”. But thanks for your snark.

Uganda has nothing to do with it. Idi Amin is dead. He could read like a Republican in New York.
Carlson got trashed by the star chamber at Fox News. In the business, they say Carlson and others who get fired in the manner he did, as getting "Pomeranian As$ Jacked."

NY State or NYC? NYC under its republican leadership of 20 years (Guliani/ Bloomberg) or its democratic leadership of 8 years (DiBlasio)? Do your stats take into account those who grew up in NY or immigrants from Africa, the Caribbean and red states?
Yeah, but it's the way Carlson got fired that is important. Word in NYC is that he showed up in his limo on Monday morning, and the security guard told him his building access had been restricted. That's when Carlson knew something was up. So he called around to his subordinates and none of them took his calls. Finally, after 20 minutes of having his driver honk the horn, an HR rep came down and told him that he was being let go and would have to leave the premises per Fox policy. They went out of their way to humiliate Carlson.

Nobody got snarky over your original post. In fact not a single soul responded. It changed when you questioned the reason for settlement and the wisdom of taking $800 million five pages later.

YES! And those who got snarky made assumptions they shouldn’t have made. My first post proved I thought Carlson lied. The question of why they took a little less than half was based on what looked liked a very winnable case and yet they settled. It was an honest question but people assumed I thought Dominion was hiding something. I was quick to disassociate myself from the poster who wanted to go down that path. You know, it’s really not that hard to say “Sorry, I misunderstood. Have a nice day.”
