It's interesting that Halal stores and Arabs usually move into areas that were populated by Jews. Why? Because the Jews are the one group who always accepted diversity. Up until the 1980s this was absolutely the case but relations have been poor the last few decades.

I suspect that in the colonial country where your relatives settled there were other groups that first settled, used their influence, cohesion, and power to become successful.
You seem to be an advocate for assimilation, Jews found out the hard way that assimilation doesn't help. In some countries they couldn't own land and they were forced to be merchants, bankers, and take on other occupations and yes live in certain areas.
We didn't 'settle' , we come from a mix of backgrounds within the colonialisation of that country, in fact parly Irish, because they do 'assimilate'.

Yep, I get his feelings, but I leave my comments to our personal experiences. I discuss these same things with my good friends who are not such 'staunch' Jews, or actually like me no longer 'adhere' to the religion we grew up with.
