How did it get there, did the burglar come from INSIDE the car? Guess what, smashed glass tends to fly everywhere, and then the burglar opens the door so he can get in and even more glass falls outside.
2. Perhaps their security service saw an alarm go off when the door was opened and they called 911, or a neighbor heard the glass break or noticed an open door. Those would result in well-being checks.

I don’t get what’s so weird about concealing a 911 call from your attacker. “Hey crazed attacker, I’m calling 911 right now, so make sure to hurry up and finish killing me before they get here!”
