Or said that they are suspending the current coaching staff. This whole thing is so disturbing. I mean has there been any outcry from the local community? From the students?
If that's the case, that Huntington will not settle, are they Hannah and Emma going to need legal funds? Depending on the law firm and agreement they may not be prepared to actually go to trial. Their current agreement could state that the lawyers get x% of money in a settlement. If there's no settlement and Plaintiffs want to take it to trial they would have to enter a new agreement which make include money down or more money down if they don't already have any down.
Don’t law firms typically only take cases that are sure things? From my understanding, firms that aim for settlements typically only take the best cases for them. So if the aim is for a settlement, I would imagine that they easily have enough to win the case. I hope this is the case and that Huntington is being explained to, by their lawyers, that this is unwinnable and that they have to fork over a few million. That’s at least some level of justice I guess.
If that’s not the case and Hannah, Emma, etc need money for the case, that will be no issue. I know we can collectively make that happen if that’s even allowed or whatever legally. Kickstarter to screw over the rapist? The money can be acquired.
It was not germane to the 2020 criminal suit against Johnson, so it wasn't investigated by the police. However, it would be a part of the new civil suit and will likely be investigated by the prosecuting legal team and questioned if the case goes to a jury trial:

Police didn't get care about running or that he likely got the prescription as PED for athletes. They thought he was making up a BS excuse for his behavior. While I think it's possible he has a prescription for testosterone cream I don't believe he got it with the intention of fixing ED. At some point in the police report someone says that Lauren worries he is a sex addict. This is likely one of the unknown substances he was applying during massages.
Nick goes on a lot of seemingly unrelated tangents in his interview during the investigation. There's 2 other conversations mentioned in the investigation by other people where they say he went on wild tangents. He seems slightly paranoid when he begins defending himself from accusations that may not exist at the time he's defending himself against them. I think the investigators viewed it as him trying to deflect from what they knew by him saying well at least I didn't do this thing because of x, y and z. The reality is beginning to appear like he did do those things and he was actually trying to deter investigation into that. I'm sure there's more undocumented conversations that might be telling into other questionable acts or crimes he's committed.

This is a great post and completely consistent with what I’ve seen of the inner workings of higher education. Also I just will as that “if you can pay” means “if you can go into crippling debt through federal student loan programs.”

It’s almost always the case that law firms take these cases purely on a contingency fee basis (they get nothing if no payout from the case) and front any hard costs. I’d be blown away if the plaintiffs need to pay anything out of pocket. But it’s a kind thought to think of helping them.
The usual protocol for this type of event is for universities to suspend the accused staff with pay [generally immediately] pending an investigation. Protection of students-athletes is the university's paramount concern, right? The allegations in this situation are significantly more egregious than those that would generally warrant immediate action.
I am an NAIA alum. When I was in college, a former athlete from a former job of his filed a civil suit against my coach alleging improper conduct when she was a minor (the lawsuit was later dropped).
I was super concerned my coach was going to get fired, but my school didn't care at all. I thought the school would at least check in on me and make sure there had not been any problems, but I never heard a peep from anyone.
I was glad my coach did not get fired, and I was definitely not being abused, but I was also a little disturbed that no one cared enough to check in with me.
As bad as the larger schools can be with these kinds of issues, small private colleges can be much worse, and can be much harder to hold accountable.

So is that how Lauren Johnson was introduced to victim 1, from her husband preying on her? Because presumably she wasn’t coaching her before that or else victim 1 wouldn’t have believed Nick Johnson was from U of O and would’ve known oh this is my coach’s husband. And now victim 1 is running at Huntington. Like how are her parents ok with this?
Bethel, and other schools hosting meets, can also make life hard for the HU coaching staff by requiring that they check in with campus security and watch a mandatory sexual harassment education video upon arrival plus sign a document attesting that they will adhere to that institution's policies regarding sexual behavior and student contact. They are also restricted to a 50 foot radius around their team tent while on school grounds, monitored by a member of that school's campus police. Additionally, designate a tent area significantly away from those of other teams.
Until the matter is resolved, schools should openly boycott any meets hosted by HU or demand that HU provide security and athlete escorts to all visiting athletes while they are on the HU campus.
Make sports participation such a pain in the rear for HU that they have no choice but to make changes.
The meet is not on school grounds it's at County park 7 or 8 miles away from Bethel.

I am in complete agreement with you. The police were not investigating anything related to the new civil suit.

what I find interesting is his comments that are public/documented record in his interviews, are now very interesting when paired up with the new civil case involving PEDs and sexual assault.

which will now be reviewed against claims of rape and PED usage.

I believe dad isn’t in the picture and mom seems to be a little wacky as well. I believe other victims of Nick also had parental issues making them easier targets. Nick himself, I believe, didn’t have the best parenting situation.

I will venture a “guess” here.
Nick and Lauren both knew victim #1 prior to the recruiting trip. Nick and Victim #1 had an inappropriate relationship prior even if it wasn’t physical yet. Victim #1 knew about the Oregon ruse and used it as an excuse to her parents to spend a weekend away with Nick.
We know she now doesn’t see herself as a victim and likely still has a relationship with Nick and that is why she has decided to go to Huntington and run under his wife.
lauren seems open to these relationships even if she doesn’t take an active role in them.
