Zoobie, no one is debating that the Mormon church isn't a de facto racist institution and overall racket built on absurdities, but this instance at a women's college volleyball game seems to have been manufactured by the godmother (who certainly has the mentality for conjuring things up as evidence by her Twit account). Why go with a fake, when there is so much real evidence of how absurd Mormonism is?
A BYU investigation into an accusation that a Duke women's volleyball player was subjected to racial slurs during a match in Provo last month found no evidence, the school announced.
Hey look guys, I’m glad we all learned a valuable lesson about listening yo each other’s concerns and not rushing to judgment about them. It’s heartening to see that we can all support each other.
Just a reminder that several black BYU basketball players were in the small student section where Rachel Richardson lied and said the n word was coming from. All of them adamantly denied hearing that word. pic.twitter.com/OahWO2kAha
News sources actively seek to write about racially charges occurrences, and a lot of them which are labeled racist are not actually that. But the motive for this is revenue because pulling the race card attracts attention/clicks/revenue. The news is sick and twisted these days when revenue is the catalyst. They're like cheap wholesale, anything for a dollar. Most is their garbage is at the expense of good people and businesses. The solution is for society to start holding these individuals reporting accountable for a change.
After an exhaustive investigation, BYU announces they have found zero evidence of any racial slur & they apologized to the fan who was kicked out, saying he did nothing wrong. This was Jussie Smollett on a volleyball court. Duke should be ashamed. https://t.co/XtNEeusIHX
BYU initially apologized to Duke for the now-debunked incident. Will Duke now apologize? BYU also apologized to the University of South Carolina when they canceled the basketball game. Will USC now formally apologize for forfeiting the basketball game against BYU? Will the NCAA punish USC for it's actions?
BYU did nothing wrong and still apologized. The institutions that pushed a racist agenda have not and I highly doubt either of them ever will. This says a lot about the ethics of the three schools.
OP and the BYU conservatives were right all along. Of course the original accusation got far more attention than the ultimate finding that it was a lie.
I think the most plausible explanation apart from an outright, premeditated hoax is that she mistakenly thought she heard something one time during the match, then her godmother, who appears to be running for office, took to social media, made unfounded, sensationalistic claims, and the athlete felt compelled to triple down to cover for her.
Has a single reporter asked the Duke player what she alleges she heard and how often? I've never heard her specifically quoted. The only quotes I've seen come from the godmother.
Even BYU in its statement said something like (paraphrasing), the most important thing is the Duke player's experience.
This is basically where we are with this sort of thing. Title IX investigations and increasingly, handling of sensitive topics in educational contexts more generally, are taking on a "feelings first" approach, where heavy emphasis is put on what the put-upon party "feels" occurred rather than examining the incident to determine objectively what occurred. Consequences will, inevitably, be given based upon this framework -- if the "victim" feels something occurred, the consequences to the perpetrator will be doled out according to the strength of what the victim feels happened, not necessarily what in fact happened.
All that is a long way of saying, it shouldn't be a surprise that the exact language is hard to come by. Another factor is that recently, when dealing with race slurs generally but especially black slurs specifically, people can be protested, canceled, attacked, etc. for merely reading/printing them as part of reporting the racist speech of another person, so reporters may be somewhat loathe to reprint anything. (Students at a school in Minnesota staged a walkout after a teacher read aloud a racist text message in an attempt to find out who sent it, for example.)
To the guy who posted endless examples of BYU being racist... yeah, we know. Mormons can be pretty racist. The church was officially off-limits to black people until relatively recently, the 1970s I believe. But none of these separate examples prove that a specific BYU student made racist comments to this specific Duke volleyball player in the specific way she alleges. It would not have been considered a legitimate argument when I was in school to try your "where there's smoke there MUST be fire!!!" technique, but I know the critical theorists are fond of it and other guilt-by-association arguments, so it's making a comeback.

The institution who has the most to lose investigates itself and says there was no evidence, are you kidding me you can just say it is a lie? Do you believe Joe Biden when he and his government have investigated and found Hunter Biden did nothing wrong? Of course you don't. Hypocrisy levels are pegged at the highest they have ever been for quite some time now on both sides.

I think it's time for people like you to concede that this was a hoax. 5000 people with portable recorders the match was video taped, police in the stadium on alert.... and there is no evidence, none, other than one duke player claiming there was a racial insult every time she served.
Come on. it's over. Didn't happen. Open eyes, see. You will be more credible next time if you admit this one is a hoax.

I agree with you and I hope that we’ve reached a tipping point. There is a real human cost to false or overhasty allegations and I think we need to push back on them. It doesn’t seem to be a case where there can be reasonable difference. What she claims either happened or it didn’t, and it appears that there is not one shred of evidence to back up her claims.
Somewhat lost in all the dust is the fact that there’s a real human cost here. They made specific allegations against an individual and had him banned. It seems like he may have had an unpleasant interaction with one or more Duke players and they spun that up into him making racist and threatening remarks. The fact that he is special needs is concerning and I have to wonder if she made this up as retaliation for him making fun of her serving. This seems more plausible than her original story.

Did I say it wasn't a hoax? No, it very well could be. Will you or I ever know what really happened? Most likely not so at this point we can't really make statements like "it was a lie" or "didn't happen". We sure as hell can't trust an investigation from only BYU as our source of truth I will tell you that, open your eyes and start thinking critically.
It's laughable to me who people trust investigating items and who they don't depending on what they want to be the outcome. The other piece of this story is there is a large subset of America who wants a very specific outcome in a pretty extreme way (black woman = liar). You can reflect internally on why that is but don't deny it, look at how many responses are on this thread. If you think it comes from a place of justice, fairness or anti-hypocrisy I laugh at your ignorance.

I agree with your post. False allegations are good for nobody and only serve to cast doubt when there are legitimate incidents.
That said, I don’t care for the title of this thread: “Another racial hoax…”
There are far more incidents of racial injustices than there are hoaxes. It happens a lot. I am Jewish and have been discriminated against. My brother is married to a black woman and she has been discriminated against and he has also been discriminated against merely because he is married to a black woman. So while this incident might be a hoax, it does not lessen what happens in everyday life. Anyone that believes that discrimination and racism don’t exist is an obtuse tool.

Just a bit of advice.
"No one is debating the Morman church is racist"? ??? half of this country disagrees with you.... You are a left wing wacko completely out of touch with reality
Most of the idiots on here have never met a Morman...I have.... as a group they are the nicest, kindest, gentlest most hospitable people I have ever met....They are also smart, hard working and prosperous...They are a stellar people in every way...Almost a different species from the hate filled, unhappy, bitter "wokes" on this board.
Ok, so you and your loved ones have experienced discrimination. What does that have to do with what happened in a crowded arena in Utah? How about Jussie Smollett? Amari Allen?
There have been quite a few racially-motivated hoaxes in recent years and it may make you uncomfortable, but there are many people like me who can respect your experience while remaining appropriately skeptical for each new allegation.
The left tries this move every time: “This event is part of a pattern and must be believed”
When presented evidence to the contrary: “The pattern proves that the vein happened no matter what evidence is presented”
