Texas state meet —- Dylan Schiefflein - 9 - 16:05. Helped Austin Vandegrift podium for the first time. Second place. This team could make NXN without Jesuit LA if all goes right Caden Leonard - 9- lead southlake carroll to a team title
Caden Leonard got 6th overall, top 5 and 7-8 were all Seniors, so he might be the favorite going into 2023. Keep in mind Caden improved from 7:55 2400's as an 8th grader to 15:08 5K leading Southlake in just 6 months.

Or he might get beat by a senior teammate. Sounds like he will get pushed more by his teammates than his opponents.
They return 4 varsity guys and other juniors like:
Golomb (who ran a 9:32 in track but started XC season late)
VandeBerghe (who destroyed the JV race at districts. Ran just a little faster than their 7th man Ortiz. In fact, I would rather see healthy Fisher in the top 7 this year than these 2 who cannot keep up with their top 6)
some more sophs on Carroll’s varsity
they could challenge for an NXN title at some point. Even next year… in 2011 they got second behind CBA

Jonah Sloan running 10:17 as a 10th grader doesn’t bode well for his chances of ever sniffing the varsity.
I think this demonstrates how the thin the pipeline at Np is compared with year’s past when a 10:17 10th grader is considered a potential scorer compared with the 8:43 Lex ran as a 10th grader and he was the 3rd or 4th scorer as an 11th grader.
This race once again shows how valid your point is. He was 21 seconds behind the 7th Newbury Park nonsenior. The younger Sloan did not race. Younger one beat the older one at the first race this season. The older one beat the younger one in the next 2 races

Schieffelin from Vandegrift is another guy that could challenge for the state title next year, since he will be a senior and also carrying the torch for the team after Sanchez leaves. He also wasn’t far behind Leonard at state
Good lord. The fastest kid I’ve ever had coming in out of 8th grade in 23 years of coaching, was 5:07. Usually I’m happy if a boy has run under 7:00 in a PE class. 2 boys on my current varsity team had never broken 10:00 for a mile.
How relevant is this topic anymore? In 2019 Caden Swanson was one of the best 9th graders in CA. This year he is not only very far from where he was in his class, but he has been very inconsistent too
