Unreal that a 25 year old American just finished 4th at Worlds in probably the strongest 10,000 ever assembled on the track and people on Letsrun act like its a massive failure.
Oh and he beat the defending Olympic Champ in this event too. Great race by Fisher, 2023 worlds he takes the next jump to the podium.
It’s not the 4th that’s a failure. It’s the effort.

And while I understand front running at all times is not practical, if the whole field is running like cowards, someone has to decide they actually want to participate in a good faith race. These guys are too talented to be doing things like running 14 minute opening 5ks. It’s just very disappointing once again.
sprinter guy - looking over these last pages you're on pace to set a WR for thumbs down. You are one major dweeb.
Except it isn’t 80 plus degrees, but sure, make up your own facts
You’re right. Perfect weather, sprinter guy….
It was good weather, and better weather than it often is for championship races. But I guess some will look for any excuse as to why not everyone tried their best in this race.
Would have loved to see Fisher take it with 4 laps to go and really crank it. Not sure it would have improved his chance at a medal but would have been fun as hell to watch!
As many have mentioned or implied, this performance was both awesome ... and not what it could have or should have been. I think his best play would have been getting to the front and pushing from 1000m-1400m out. He's a good sprinter, but not a great sprinter.
That said, who'd have thought he'd beat all of the Ethiopians and all but one Kenyan?
Great finish for Uganda, making up for disaster in the marathon.
L takes all around from some of the people here. As soon as I clicked on this thread I knew it would be full of people sh*tting on fisher after he ran an amazing race. 4th might not be a medal but its still a great placement in a field like this. Best of luck to Fisher in the 5k, repping the US very well on the track.
You have the bad take here. Nobody is sh*thing on Fisher. He ran well enough to medal and many of us saw that when we watched the race. Many of us watched him sit too far back for too long boxed on the rail too far back. That was a great position for much of the race but not during the last 5 laps when the real racing started. He almost fixed it once or twice but each time he settled back in to the rail. He was too far back when the kicking started and he showed a good enough kick to earn a medal. He was just too far back to get there. Anyone watching the race should be able to see this.

Right and wrong isn’t determined by thumbs up and thumbs down on a message board, but good for you for being concerned about that.
I knew Ahmed and Fisher weren’t medaling when the big names were jockeying at the front all race pushing the pace and they were just chilling in the pack.
you could tell right there, especially Ahmed, that they came with the wrong strategy

What it boils down to me is that individuals dissect this race as if the athletes weren’t going 110% the entire race. All of the best in the 10k, gold medalist, world champions and world record holder were all going near max. It was a beautiful championship race yet many analyze it as if they are comparing these athletes to HS athletes trying to squeeze out a few more seconds to dip under the varsity letter time.
I'm surprised that Fisher let it go to the last lap. He sprinted better than I thought he could and as well as anyone in the field. If he got out of the box and took over the pace with 3 laps to go he might well have won the race. Nobody put distance on him once the sprinting started. He should watch some of Farah's races and try to replicate his tactics in the future.
Fisher would have like 4 medals if he ran during Rupp’s era.
This race was similar to London 2012 where Rupp took silver.
Congrats to Fisher. It sucks to be just out of the medals but he beat a lot of great names and definitely backed up his 12:53 and 26:33. He’ll get some hardware before he’s done.

The race was similar except the fields were not close in strength. Tariku Bekele 3rd and a washed Kenensia in 4th in 2012.

Americans here and everywhere are (rightly) celebrating Grant Fisher's brave performance that almost won him a medal. Meanwhile, on Kenyan TV, 1987 world marathon champ, Douglas Wakiihuri is sounding downcast as he despondently criticises Kenyan tactics and complains about another Kenyan "failure". Says we need to up our game and that "there's something the others are doing that we're not". It was all I could do from screaming at the screen that Kenyan selectors kept their best 10K runner home and replaced him with mediocre Rodgers Kwemoi despite Kandie being eligible for selection by world rankings.
