Really sad that such behavior is supported by so many posters here. But, this is letsrun, so that was to be expected.

Actually it seems to only apply to Cain. Most posters on LR agree that HS and collegiate coaches should not pressure female athletes about their weight, but at the pro level Salazar waded right in. If it's taboo at other levels, why is it acceptable at the pro level?

If there were changes to Cain's body after HS, where it was no longer possible to run sub-4:10, then so be it. Bad sports contracts happen. Nike can afford to eat this one and it's pocket change compared to what MLB teams have absorbed.

It's a bunch of weak, scared white male energy going on with this post. Alot of you act as if you're perfect and have every right to criticize someone. America is so great with you guys always whining and complaining about women or people of color standing up for themselves. So many tough guys behind keyboards and screens. Pretty sure the majority of you are single, never married or divorced. Don't be such pansies and afraid of women. Emotional abuse is just as bad as physical abuse, hence the high number of suicides in younger people. Also, how many of you have ever won anything other than your local turkey trot?

No, I never told an athlete they look like sh*t, but neither did Salazar. I don't recall ever making comments about specific body parts, but I do recall making a humorous comment once about an athlete needing a larger size uniform in front of the team. The team and the athlete got a big laugh out of the comment. This athlete spent the summer in Europe and was well aware she had gained a lot weight. This was arguably the best female athlete I ever coach and whose name most people on this board would know. Btw, I did do public weightings when I coached football, but don't I recall weighting track and field except maybe on a rare occasion and if I did, it wasn't in private, it was wherever the scale was. Trainers weight track athletes and give the number to coaches if needed.

Notwithstanding weather I agree or disagree with what actually happened between Cain and AlSal, what I am posting about now is the aftermath. AlSal has been dragged through the mud and Cain has had her moment in the spotlight to speak what she feels in her truth through numerous articles and interviews. Cain has had the opportunity to speak truth to power in a way that is almost unprecedented in the history of track and field. Athletes have been raped by coaches and have not received the platform Cain has. Don't you think she has gotten a sufficient amount sympathy? You can't build your whole life, career and get rich because someone embarrassed you about your weight nearly decade ago.

Ok. Thanks for the education. Even more solidifies my stance that she has no leg to stand on here. I think it's possible Nike might give her some money to make her go away, but she's not deserving of any of it.

The $20M is just a number and it's always going to be big when it comes to civil lawsuit claims. Do you think Trump will get his requested $100M from his neice and the NYT?

This suit is not going to protect anyone else since Alberto is on a lifetime ban and will not be coaching anyone else. I truly am disgusted by over litigious nature of the society as it exists today in Biden's America.

The thing that just frustrates me about this is that it goes back to the same old "there are starving kids in Africa right now." I would be embarrassed to act like this ruined my life.

It is the general problem in politics these days. The country as a whole have lives that are too easy and have never known true hardship. This is really just and explanation on how cushy Mary Cain's life was as a youngster. Kids growing up in the projects are rolling their eyes

Professional athletics is a cut throat environment. It seems like Al Sal and Mary were just an awful combination of coach and athlete. It was never going to work and they tried for way too long.

Whats wrong with you people, everyone sues everyone else for some thing or other.

This is why , after being taken over by a US company, we can no longer have the traditional Friday afternoon beers, because they are afraid someone is going to sue them for allowing them to drink too much

No. Whether he was reasonable is irrelevant under the law. This isn't a coaching seminar, it's a civil lawsuit.

To win, she has to prove that Salazar INTENDED to harm her psychologically. I don't see that sufficiently pleaded in the complaint.
