I am an investor. I care how much I make. To focus merely on the index valuation is very misleading. As I previously said, over the last 100 years 40% of the total return of the S & P has been provided by dividends. So if the S & P index falls 10% that doesn't mean your total return has fallen 10%. Heck your total return may have gone up.

More art of the deal. Stocks tank with big bond sell off in response to tariffs. Trump says Fed Chairman should be fired for not fixing Trump's screw up. Stocks tank again, more bond sell off. Trump backs off Fed Chair and China tariff with no new deals. Stocks gain back SOME of their losses. Still down 10% since Trump took office. Foreign and investor confidence in US is in the toilet, showing no sign of changing.
This is the sitting duck proposal. No real security guarantees other than the mineral deal. Of course Putin would just wait a few years until Trump is out of office and Russia has rearmed and then just roll over Ukraine and tell the US the mineral deal is off.
If Crimea become permanently part of Russia, that allows Russia to maintain a huge military/naval base that could be used for another war to take all of Ukraine (or at least take control of the southern coastal area through to Odesa to link Russia with Transnistria to set the stage for a further westward push into old Soviet satellite states. And it would cut off the rest of Ukraine from access to the Black Sea.
If Putin really wants an enduring peace, he would agree to security guarantees that would make it clear that any further attacks on Ukraine would mean that the West would stand in to defend Ukraine. Anything short of that will just set the stage for a further conflict.
No, he would not "wait a few years until Trump is out of office." He will certainly take Ukraine as soon as he thinks he can - Trump or no Trump.

Regardless of my opinion on the subject, he declared martial law because there was a war. That makes sense. Suspended elections come with martial law. So that makes sense. Kidnapping kids off the street? I didn't know about that. When did that happen? According to Ukrainian law he is not a dictator. If the war ends and he holds on to power, maybe, but not now.

And the Americans who wanted him and don't wake up get no sympathy for the damage China might do to their finances. Nor much sympathy for those who VERY belatedly woke up.
So far, Trump’s tariff plan appears to be the equivalent of setting the neighborhood on fire and standing outside with a big fire truck, waiting for all the people line up and plead for help. And there’s not much to suggest the strategy goes much further than that, despite the administration’s quixotic and largely rhetorical fantasy of a bringing manufacturing back to the United States.
