Trump will mist certainly fire Mueller. Why? Because he has nothing to lose. He knows he is guilty and Mueller has the good on him on multiple fronts. Trump has no way out. By firing Mueller, Trump's hope is that Republicans in Congress will not stop him. If they do stop him, and keep Mueller leading the investigation, then Trump ends up in the same place he was before trying to fire Mueller.
The end result of the above is the same for two cases. Only in the case that Congressional Republicans support Mueller's firing does Trump buy time to save his illigitimate presidency.

When Trump fires the special counsel this week the same thing will happen that happened back in 2000 when the Supreme Court appointed George W. Bush President—some Americans will rant and rave and a select few politicians with no aspirations for higher office will cry foul, but nothing really will happen. What should happen is a general strike and an unprecedented shutting down of the state, but Americans are too cozy for such things.
