Greetings from smoky California! Fortunately not smoky where I live, but there's a huge fire in the foothills east of Fresno that has been burning for weeks and is sending lots of smoke up into the mountains, so no hiking/backpacking this week or probably next.
I took two days off this week to rest my heel but still logged 49 miles including 11.2 miles on Friday and 13.5 miles this morning. The latter is the longest run I've done in five and a half years; while I've raced four half-marathons since then, I hadn't gone beyond 13 miles in training. My long runs used to be 14-16 miles when I was training for half-marathons, but that was when I was a lot faster! I now feel the way I used to feel after running 20 miles or so. It was good to get these in with a half-marathon planned in 3 weeks, and it also helped disabuse me of the idea of running a 30K 8 weeks from today.
I plan to spend the rest of the day watching the US Open final and then watching the 49ers and Bills play football.
Happy and healthy running to all.
