This would be the no brainer, but if he was hiring Herbster, you’d think he would have announced this already instead of embarrassing himself (and his sexy school) on making offers no amount of money people are willing to take...people just know better than to work for him.

Herbster, Herbster,Herbste, look I said it three times and does not make it true. Again why would Herbster take it , because no one else wants it? That list is awesome by the way. But get deep into the list and scratch any one with more than 4 scholarships for the men. We keep comparing apples to apples. Texas is different it is a sprint school and in heat and with maybe three scholarships, probably for the three NCAA guys. Distance coaches want Mountains and 5 scholarships. Texas is not that, Come to think of it how is Texas that good.

You make some good points. On that list, the only one who would be getting a scholarship upgrade to go to Texas is Magness, who has few at Houston. Flo wouldn’t hire him though. Doesn’t fit his mold.

Someone will take the $$. It just won’t be the big splash Flo wants. The reality is Texas has to be good in the field and distance. That’s where they can get the best TX recruits.

Sprints is a tough sell. They will go to Houston. 400/800 runners will go to A&M. Distance has no natural fit in the state so UT gets them.

It’s 7/1, the first day coaches can meet with rising seniors off campus. We are one month from those same seniors being able to take official visits. Have Texas, UNC, or Oregon set up visits with the top 2019 distance kids yet? They are just now starting to fall behind! Time to announce the hires and get on with it.

Todd Morgan and Jeff Pig to Texas? Both are good coaches and have a history of producing quality athletes in the south. If it wasn’t for bad luck at UVA, Todd may still be there.

Both men coached at Florida under Mouse Holloway and face it, Flo and Mouse are one in the same people. They both use control, fear and manipulation in managing their coaching staffs. I doubt that Jeff or Todd want to go back to that work environment.

Sprints at Texas has been good before and will be good again, however it will take money to build that sprint program and that means less money for throws and distance, but distance is not getting much anyway. Who are you going to hire that will recruit with .20 scholarships a year? Not two scholarships but .20 and be happy with it? Oh and work with Floreal and his demanding style.

No. Magness does not get 5 scholarships. Try 0.5 and that was all in the steepler. Houston is all sprints.

Texas can’t match A&M and Houston in sprints. Add Tech in there and Baylor with 400m runners and there is no room for UT. If they try to dominate sprints ya, they’ll lose. Flo’s strategy won’t work. If I’m him I build some hurdlers, field, and the best TX distance kids. People will come to UT for cheap. That’s all he has going for him.

You are truly a fool if you don’t think Texas can be good at sprints. Whether they will is a different story. Texas has been very good in every area. Tough to do on the men’s side but definitely can and should be done on women’s team.

Everyone so up and excited about a distance hire. Ya distance is what wins you an outdoor title, probably the most important title in our sport to the admin. Texas would be better off having a cross team of 400/400mh/800 guys and sprinkle in some walking than actually invest in distance.

Herbster recently cleaned out most of the UT stuff from his Twitter. His cover photo and bio have been updated to remove Texas information. Looks like he will not be there this fall. It's unfortunate for him this late in the summer.

Herbster never planned on staying.

There are no T&F coaches listed on the Texas site, except Floreal on the department directory. Maybe because they also cut the track and field SID loose.

It's a female position. That is why it does not have a designation. Anytime you see a bland posting like that it is because they are trying to attract a female and the more specifics they put in place the more likely the size of the female pool will be smaller. So it is best available female.
