2012 Coaching Openings

Eastern New Mexico? What is going on at that DII school. Coach quit about 3-4 weeks ago. Who they bringing in and who is interviewing? I won't ask again!

Hey, I will be the first to admit 5 in 100 young coaches will be good. The rest will go through the motions and pretend to care about the sport. Now take the same 100 experienced coaches. Now the table is turned 95 out of 100 will be legit, and 5 will go through the motions... probably because the 5 are ready to retire.

Aw... You didn't get the job? So sorry. And why, exactly do you suppose this guy can't coach distance runners? Shall I remind you that Bowerman was a sprints coach until he started coaching distance runners?

The PSU AD has WAY more important things to worry about than this. The idea that he is trying to give the HC enough rope to hang himself is laughable. Much like you, my friend. If you really cared about PSU you would be rooting for this guy.

How about the other jobs? Michigan State and Stanford?

No sorry for you. Got a good job at a little shoe company you may know. I said its not about if he can coach distance runners, its about how it will be for all the athletes that he coaches sprinters, distance, hurdlers, relays and field events.

Now my point is that he doesn't want distance so this is his way of killing that part of the program. He has told people as much. Bowerman wasnt trying to kill the cross country program like is the case here. There are 5 guys on the entire team! This is a public college in the NW in which only the U of O offers another division 1 opportunity at a public college in Oregon.

The intention of a college having a program is not to merely meet the NCAA minimums but to offer a competitive opportunity for its student population to participate in.

You sound like a bitter old douche of a coach who was beat out for a job by a "young buck" who is willing to do more work than you. Get over yourself.

You are an idiot. I know several "experienced coaches" who are pathetic and don't know how to recruit or work hard or do anything right, holding on to their job because they do just enough to get by.

Your argument is pathetic and flawed and you need to keep this crap to another forum, as this one is used for Coaching Openings. And again, get over yourself.

They are going to be reviewing applications soon, per an email with the AD.

Right... Your posts are a grammatical train wreck of second-hand rumors and innuendos. You are obviously emotionally connected to this PSU coaching decision. And no way do you have a "good" job with a major shoe company. You should either go to college and better yourself or demand a refund from the one you already attended.

Since I've been following the Portland State situation I want to put my 2 cents in. I agree with Portland State Distance poster on this.

We all know that if you are trying to run a well rounded D1 program, you should have multiple coaches, all with different specialties working to coach and recruit their group. You can't have 1 coach, Harrison, coaching everything and recruiting. It just will not work. Portland State has been in the bottom of the Big Sky for a while now and I suspect this move will not help. It probably is some way to save money or make a point or something. It is a shame on the AD and Harrison for not following a better timeline and hiring someone to coach (although I'm not sure when Jeffers left exactly (not even sure if he was fired or left on his own)).

This situation parallels the U of Montana situation in that they hired another distance coach, Vicky Pounds, to coach the "sprinters" after Harry Clark left. It is just a bad situation for the athletes and the coaches who have to figure out what they are going to coach, especially out of their 'specialty' area.

Both of these situations are a reminder that there are haves and have nots in the NCAA.

And before you accuse me of being bitter for not getting hired, you should know that I happily working as a high school coach and teacher making double what most college assistant coaches make.

Oh, and lastly before you compare this to the UO Bowerman situation, can we all agree that times have changed??? UO has how many coaches on the payroll these days??

Yes, Clemson had a throws position opening, but it was only available to apply for like 3 or 4 days. I'm guessing they already knew who they wanted in there. Just haven't announced it yet.
