Looks like he’s running his own training facility in JAX. I spent 4 years in Chambana and now live in FL. I’m not sure anyone sane makes this move. At least not for the ambiance and climate.
I don’t expect Illinois is his dream job but it is not hard to imagine him feeling like he might need to make a move. His pro group is having a bad time right now; McLeod didn’t make the team, KJT s was 8th at WC, KW had a bad year, Scantling who was one of the favorites at WC was just suspended for whereabouts violations and probably out for two years. College might be looking like a comfortable landing spot at this time.
Would be absolutely shocked if Illinois even interviews him. Nothing against him, I just don't think Illinois is going after a candidate like that. They'll want someone who has been the head of a program before and showed consistency in their career.
Sac state has not been very good in the distances lately, but it was not that long ago when Scott Abbot was coaching they routinely had NCAA finalists and US champs participants in the women’s 800 and even a couple of low to mid 16:00 5k ladies.

I think he was the head coach at Georgia and won two NCAA team titles didn't he? As far as head coaching performance, I think Illinois would have a hard time finding someone better to take the job.
Its somewhat unbelievable that UT would not part ways with this guy before the real embarrassment comes. He has such a dark history of doping as an athlete and dealer. Should not be in the sport, no matter how long its been. So many schools steered clear because of the rumors out of his camp at A&T. Now Tennessee takes the risk and immediately gets hit with his son in a doping situation. This looks very sketchy for Tenn. Hope the athletes and assistant coaches don't also get upended. Will be interesting to see how it plays out in the short term and long term. If something happens down the road, there is no way that Tenn can act surprised.

New AD hired 6 years ago and I’m not sure he has a profile that he looks for in coaches. About the only program I think he thinks he needs an established coach for is men’s basketball. That’s one of the few established programs we have.
True, he was head. But yea Illinois won't get someone with that level of success..
Despite it not working out our AD managed to find an NFL head coach that took a team to a Super Bowl. He’s a good person to work for and an outstanding salesman.

I didn’t mention our football program is craptastic so finding a guy who is soon to have coached 3 NFL teams including one that went to a Super Bowl is no small accomplishment.

From the Dutch article… “Randolph Ross, the son of the Tennessee athletics head coach, recently missed a doping test, putting the senior position in jeopardy.”
Randolph Ross will not get the chance to add to his trophy case at this year’s world track and field championships. The day before he was scheduled to run his preliminary race in the 400, Ross was informed by the Athletics In...
