Jake Barraclough (Ran to Japan) just ran a 2:16 marathon in a training run. 👀
Absolutely awesome. Would be amazing if he ran a sub 2.10 in Tokyo. Would be equivalent to Philly's time; however, minus all the drama, pacing, altitude training and "the race that changed everything" aftermath !
I've finally had to unfollow Philly. It's all the pulling silly faces, silly voices, and interspersing her clips with silly memes like she's soooo zany and crazy.
Why do you purport to be fun? You're clearly a highly strung, neurotic, whiney, self-obsessed girl it would be unbearable to be around for long.
I just feel sorry for her other half; now relegated to documenting someone else's dreams while his own, as an actor, fall be the wayside.
I can imagine her metering out her YouTube earnings to him, like a penniless child asking for pocket money.
He just looks like he's fallen into something he can't get out of as happens to so many men.
It's NEVER to late to make a break and put your happiness first. He surely can't find her physically attractive? so all that's left is that he feels accomplished in life.
The reconstruction segment at the start of the video is maybe one of the worst pieces of content put out by any youtuber across the platform.
Goddamnit, you've sold it to me, looking forward to this....
I really badly wanted it to be a faithful/serious reconstruction with tense music and matrix-like code spiralling over his screen as he looks on in silent horror. Maybe holding a glass of water and it slips out of his hand in slow motion

This seems needlessly harsh and full of projection. You're allowed to stop watching her videos without writing a hit piece on her and her boyfriend.
Nick Bester's worst week of his life is when he wasn't able to get on his social media.

this may be a hard bar to surpass, because at the weekend I watched Floberg's 'training for a 2:30 Marathon + lifting' video, and I thought it was the single worst piece of running content I've ever seen published in my life
From the poor decision making, to some hypocritical comments, to the unnecessarily dramatic montage, to the troublesome lifting form... the whole thing was a car crash

Can he really say he's chasing his dreams? Striving for what he wants from his career? Unlikely.

He needed to do more with the 'cut to person typing on keyboard' stock footage, add in some aerial footage of a police chase as he gets access to his Instagram back

I agree with you kilted but in a way it totally goes with the territory. She gets many tens of thousands of views in no time at all and given the diversity of human reactions and the anonymity of message boards, both of which she is fully aware of, she has this coming. Most viewers won't speculate on her partner's state of mind but it's not a surprise that some do.
@gettingitdone! posted "highly strung, neurotic, whiney, self-obsessed" seems like pot calling kettle black.
I agree, you can unfollow a YTber without such a rant based on absolutely no evidence (her parenter has well publized he's happy, he proposed to recently!).
I mean, I somewhat enjoy his content at least aesthetically. His personality is a little tough for me but you have to admit at least his cinematography is impressive. Obviously playing up the drama of a track workout because that’s what gets clicks. I’m more annoyed by mid runners documenting “road to sub 4” tbh

Couldn’t agree with you more, just felt like “mid” was a kinder way of saying slow haha. As someone in the 2:30s for the marathon I really only want to watch people faster than me but it feels like everyone who runs these days wants to make a YouTube channel for it

I don't find the proliferation of people documenting their running journeys a huge issue. As long as it's genuine (e.g, FOD, Global, Run to Japan).
Then on the flip side you have the sub elites drinking ketone IQ and taking lactate tests when doing intervals in the park.

I think most people don't have a problem with people sharing their journey in general, regardless of speed but there also needs to be some acknowledgement and transparency. I am personally so sick and tired of people who have become running experts over the course of a year or two and are now selling coaching programs and make running their whole career. I was scrolling Instagram the other week and saw a dude who looked like they typical hybri-athlete bro but checking out his bio, he ran his first marathon in 2023 and barely finished but now is chasing sub 2:30. Rather than just being proud of some amazing progress made in just two years, he's of course making it his whole social media personality and I wouldn't be suprised if he's partnered with every supplement company in the book plus has a pricey coaching plan so you can be just like him!

Hopefully you found a man who is making you happy. I find that most men who talk about women like this should actually just admit they are gay and would enjoy a relationship with a man instead. This is okay.

However I wouldn't describe him as the classic Youtuber...it's more mature and less ego than almost any Youtuber which I really like. He own a video production company which shows in the story telling and the cinematic quality of his video.

Really?
"You are gay LOLOL"
as an insult in 2025? Do better and wear your love the grind T shirt to your 28 minute Parkrun

perfectly put fella. her fella needs to grow a pair and get rid of her so she can see how much he does for her. unbelieveable that the guy is "happy" to move to flagstaff for 3 month training camps where he has zero friends or family, whats he supposed to do all day while shes jogging around. its not like shes elite and has a hope of making a olympics or world champs, its a very sad state of affairs
As much as the next person on this forum, I am not a fan of Phily's content, and as she's placing it in the public domain, I feel it's fair game to critique it. However, going after her personal life crosses the line. Also, she may not be world-class, but she is technically elite. She's starting London in the elite field and has a PB of 2:25'sh. If she knocks a few minutes off her PB, she'll have a qualifying time for the World Championships.
As derivative and hammed up as Phily's videos are, I imagine they provide an okay living for her and her partner.
I think her partner was an aspiring actor and is a self-taught videographer. What would he be doing if he was not making these videos? Probably working a soul-sucking job in recruitment or a crappy creative agency. As for Phily, I think she used to work in an administrative role in the Civil Service.
Overall, they are okay compared to the wider cesspit of fitness influencers. Case in point: Flowberg seems to be getting away with peddling BNP supplements when the founder "more than likely" gained his overly muscular appearance and athletic prowess through slightly stronger, less-legal supplements; in my view, this is a fraud and peddles negative, unachievable body image!
