Income taxes are paid when funds are removed from a 401(k). The money is treated as income and taxed accordingly. There are no capital gains taxes for a 401(k). There is a 10% penalty for early withdrawals.

You do realize it is preferable to pay a smaller tax years down the road vs. larger taxes today? You are familiar with our graduated income tax and the time value of money? Please tell me you aren't really a financial advisor.

Paying smaller taxes on the back end is hoped for, but not guaranteed. Any good financial advisor knows that and takes it into account when planning.

P(1-t)(1+r)^n and P(1+r)^n(1-t) are equal. pre-tax or post-tax doesn't matter, unless the tax rates are different.

The point is that the tax rates will almost certainly be different.

Just more hot air from Igy. Everyone knows the market will have a correction or worse. That's not news. Now if you can tell us WHEN, then maybe we'll listen.

High school econ class: I am gonna buy Triple Bear or Triple Bull shares and let them ride for the semester (until early December). Which to buy? Bull or Bear, from August 28-December 10? (I know that isn't the purpose of those holdings; I just don't have time to play with them daily)
