I don't think you can blame the two party system for this. It's not limited to MAG@ v. Dem. This is far beyond that. This is an enormous, nationwide sense of mistrust and dislike by Americans for other Americans. I don't think you can pin a cause on it. It's an organic, natural progression from some unknown path the country took probably decades ago. Everyone is just going to have to live with the fear, negativity, distrust and inefficiencies.
There was a time earlier in the Trump era when I thought that this might be true, but that, HOPEFULLY, the GOP would nonetheless be punished for their embrace of Trump. Sure, still plenty of Trumpers. But notably fewer elected Rs. And, of course, no resurrection of Trump.
Alas, America wasn't even good enough for that outcome.
You just recapitulated what I said. Neither Trump nor Kamala will bring prices down, that is just the way the world economy operates, prices march up at one pace or another. The upside of Trump winning means that people I hate will have their shorts in a bunch for 4 years, but the downside is that he will disrupt the service economy by sending so many people back to their homes. I will have to fend for myself in the yard and recognize that it will cost more to eat out and more restaurants I like will go under. As in most things I lose something either way. I admit I am a loser divorced, renting and driving a used car (which cost as much as a new car did before the pandemic), but at least the libs will be miserable too.
Imagine actually thinking that Donald Trump is going to make your life better?
And for the poorer Trumpers, imagine deluding yourself that the frustration of anti-Trumpers (even with another Trump victory) comes within a country mile of your frustration with your entire lot in life?
How is it that you are so wrong about everything? It is mind-boggling.
He's just sh1t stirring.
The substance of his posts beyond their ability to provoke outrage is irrelevant.
Honest conversation isn't the game.
But it points to, Civil War, aside, perhaps the gravest threat ever to our country. Newname himself MIGHT be just sh** stirring. But regardless, what he says REALLY DOES reflect the opinions/beliefs of tens of millions of Americans. And lots of them vote. Beyond depressing.
And why, I suspect, many of us come here often: Actual exposure, at least in some cases, to the civic and intellectual and ethical horrors of Trumpism that we see in the news.
TRUMP: WHY DOES THE LEFT WANT MURDERERS IN OUR COUNTRY? "Why would they want these people in our country? You look at it and you say they're not smart, but they're they're smart. They're cunning and a lot of them are evil."

You have no idea how the scientists at the plant treat the maintenance guys and operators. They look down their noses at us. Make fun of us when we aren't around. None of them could beat me in a 5K. But to a man they hate Trump. I mean really hate him. TDS to the max. We are going to lord it over those arrogant rich bast@rds on November 6th when they come in to work. I will have my red hat on for sure. HR won't like it though, I guess its a micro aggression.
Smarter, savvier, more experienced, meaner, tougher, thinks on his feet, motivates his followers to do his bidding, and will inspire fear in our enemies.
Only the “motivates his followers” part of this is true, the rest could not be further from the truth

The distance runner part of it kind of wrecks it. Better would be:
"None of them were 3rd Team All-District Offensive Lineman their senior year!"
(and I eat a lot of Arby's, and have put on 50 since then)

Yeah, "At the podiums at Helsinki-like fear" !!!
Vlad was clearly shaking.
IMAGINE the laughs he had with his staff after that !!
(and sure, all staff laughs with Putin are still scary for the staff - perhaps you don't laugh ENOUGH, or JUST RIGHT, but......)
Very interesting thing I just read. I have noticed it myself though - the people I knew who vaguely supported 'abolishing the nuclear family" all grew up with married parents (i.e. in a nuclear family)
Something that's rarely discussed is the illegitimacy/out-of-wedlock birth gap by class, even as vs race.
Across all races, the OOW birth rate for women with no college seems to be around 57%. Among women with a 4-year (real) college degree or more, it is 8%. Among white,…
Even before these surveys, frustrated Democrats were sharing internal polling that showed Harris losing in swing states like Wisconsin and Michigan ??? states that will help determine the outcome of ???

The problem with this line of thinking is an embrace of all things that would completely eradicate Trump virulence from the party rather than running your own inspirational and respectable candidate who can lay out a policy prescription that most voters can get behind. The Dems didn’t do that. So, this entire vote is just simply a vote against the other, greater perceived threat to Democracy.
When I’ve said things like border insurrection, coup against Biden, undermining of the first amendment whether via “misinformation police” like Zuckerberg and Facebook or media editing like 60 minutes, you guys shouldn’t find it so *inflammatory.” Perception is reality. Get your own house in order. Abortion rights is not the most important policy, nor should it be.
To watch her whirlwind press tour this week was to be told that, despite our own eyes and ears, she is the smartest, strongest, most capable leader since Lincoln.
